Weather permitting, at around 1:30 PM EDT (11:30 AM MDT) on Tuesday, professional daredevil Felix Baumgartner will step out of the Red Bull Stratos capsule 120,000 feet above Roswell, New Mexico. If all goes according to plan, Baumgartner will reach supersonic speeds during his freefall from the stratosphere and land alive in his pressurized space suit.
Despite extensive testing and his protective suit, there is still a possibility that the speeds Baumgartner will reach could break his limbs, or worse.
The dive, if successful, will break the 52-year-old world altitude record for altitude skydiving of 102,800 feet set by US Air Force Colonel Joseph Kittinger in 1960.
