No loose seats, but not completely American’s fault.

An American Boeing 777 (N762AN) flying from Chicago to London was on the ground in Ireland Tuesday afternoon after the flight’s second emergency landing since taking off Monday night.

American Flight 98 took off from Chicago O’Hare International Airport at 9:45 pm Monday, but was forced to land in tiny Stephensville, Newfoundland and Labrador 2 1/2 hours later when a passenger suffered an unknown medical emergency.

After two hours on the ground, the plane resumed its trek to London, only to make another emergency landing in Shannon, Ireland, when smoke was detected onboard. Techs had to be flown in from London to check out the plane, which was sourced to an IFE system cooling fan. By then the crew had used up its legal flight hours.

The flight is now reportedly grounded until Wednesday after the crew gets some rest. Passengers are being put up in local hotels.
