UPDATE 1/22/12 4:20PM: The US Coast Guard called off the search Sunday afternoon after finding no debris nor receiving any reports of a missing plane.

Witness reports indicate a plane crash off the coast of Deal Island in Maryland. According to WBOC16, residents of Deal Island heard a low-flying aircraft followed by a big splash at 5:45pm EST.

The United States Coast Guard, Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) and local fire departments have been searching where a good samaritan reported seeing a debris field, though officials have yet to find any wreckage. With heavy rescue response, there is still no firm evidence or reports of missing/overdue aircraft.

UPDATE 11:46pm EST: A United States Coast Guard District 5 Press Officer tells NYCAviation that the search from their end has been called off for the evening, and it will resume at sunrise, weather permitting. There is no word on whether NRP will continue into the night. The search was joined by USCG of Chrisfield, MD, and Atlantic City, NJ, as well as two privately-owned vessels.
