FedEx and Boeing announced on Thursday that the package hauler had ordered 27 new 767-300 Freighters. The deal would be worth over $4.7 billion based on Boeing list prices.
The 767-300 Freighter will be a new addition to the FedEx fleet, which the company says they will use to replace aging McDonnell Douglas MD-10 jets, some of which are over 40 years old. Deliveries of the 767s will begin in 2014 and stretch through 2018.
FedEx also said it would defer deliveries of 11 new Boeing 777 Freighters set for delivery between 2013 and 2018, citing a reduction in demand from Asia. The company also exercised purchase options for two additional Boeing 777 Freighters with a total list value of about $560 million, to be appended to the end of their current order’s delivery schedule.a
