Photos: Turkish Airlines Launches Istanbul-Los Angeles Service

Turkish Airlines on Thursday began its new nonstop service between Istanbul and Los Angeles International Airport.

The Istanbul-based airline threw a ceremony at LAX to celebrate the arrival of the first flight, complete with speeches delivered by officials representing Turkish and the city of Los Angeles.

The flights will operate four times a week, on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Service will be operated by the carrier’s new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.

In addition to Economy and First Class, planes on the route will be outfitted with a new premium economy class product dubbed “Comfort Class,” which the airline says “provides the affordability of economy with the luxury of business class.” Comfort Class seats offer 46in seat pitch and 19.5 inches of personal space, along with 10.6in personal displays which pump out Live TV and video-on-demand services. Internet and GSM cellphones are also accessible.
