N444PY plane crash San Diego

N444YP plane crash San DiegoA single-engine, home-built plane crashed on Monday on the Admiral Baker Golf Course in San Diego, killing at least one person and injuring four others, federal officials said.

Ian Gregor, spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration, said the plane departed from Montgomery Field for Fullerton Municipal Airport at about 12:45 p.m. PST (3:45 p.m. EST). Soon after departing, the pilot radioed Montgomery tower that he had an open door and was going to try to return to the airport. Then the tower then lost radio contact with him.

“According to local fire officials, there were five people on board the plane. One was killed, two were airlifted to a hospital and two were taken to a hospital by ambulance,” said Gregor. The condition of the injured wasn’t immediately available.

Federal records showed that the 2007-build fixed wing single-engine aircraft (N444YP) is registered to Crane Gregory, from Mesa, Arizona.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate the cause of the accident.
