How are high wind dep off of 31L usually? I would assume they would be very early on the bank.

BAD for spotters... Imagine this... if using KK, China Eastern will be over your head at HoBe

BRING BACK THE KJFK/KLGA OBSERVATION DECKS
Going to head out this morning to see what I can catch at HoBe. Definitely very windy.......should be interesting to say the least.
Heads up... I was just about to post this thread.. 31's all day folks... Those of you interested in EWR though will likely get a treat shortly... Word on the block is EWR will go to up and down 29....
Southwest Airlines-"Once it pop's it's time to stop" Southwest Airlines-"Our Shamu's are almost real" Southwest Airlines -"We blow our top real easy" Southwest Airlines- "You can't top us..... really"
Where the heck could you spot EWR29 from ? LOL Sun in your face all day from the fence outside the LTP and no other place south of the RWY ... the rest is Port Elizabeth for miles ...

LGA's onthe localizer all day as well, and are also departing 31! This means you're likely to see many go-arounds...most throttle-ups for which would probably be right at the marina spotting location.
Email me anytime at [email protected].
Gonz, I have no idea... The only time to go to New Jersey is to go through it to get someplace else......

i used to love the 22L circle to 29 on high wind days, good clean fun, especially in the DC-3,landing and taking off on one wheel like a big Cub !!!
The beehive hummm of the JT9D and GE CF680C2,the thunder of the JT8D-17,the rumble of the PW1830 and the high ,thin whine of the PW 545A are all music to my ears!
You guys are mean!

Did a little spotting this morning at HoBe and the winds are kickin' and wicked..........except for a few departures everyone was up early and banking. For those of you who might be out later EVA Cargo came in with their MD-11. Not sure when it's scheduled to depart, but it should be a good catch.
Looks like EVA 635 will leave tomorrow at 2:00pm ish... FlightAware lists it as a 744 but that could be a mistake and it would be the MD-11 that's on the ground. Nothing else listed for EVA to/from JFK.

I stood by Planeview around 9pm last night, just to relax and watch LGA's activity... 31 departures, 22 arrivals.... Saw a couple of go-arounds, and I was amazed at the number of close calls there were. Sure, I was far away and my perception might have been biased, but there was one time in particular that really seemed unsafe... LGA indeed is interesting.
When there is water at the end of any short runway, I am sure a pilot always worries about the brakes not working
