Horizon Air Streamlining Fleet To Save Costs

    from Aviation Week:
Horizon Air plans to streamline its fleet from 65 aircraft comprising three aircraft types to one solely consisting of at least 48 Bombardier Q400s. "Simplifying to a single fleet of Q400s will result in increased fuel efficiency, plus substantially reduced costs for aircraft maintenance, spare parts and pilot and mechanic training," said Jeff Pinneo, president and chief executive officer of Horizon Air.

Horizon will retire its fleet of Bombardier CRJ-700 regional jets, which average six years of age according to AVIATION WEEK's World Aerospace Database, within two years and continue phasing out its 37-seat Bombardier Q200s by June 2009.

it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

Wow...! I'm shocked they are dumping the 700s but in reality the Q400's perform very similar to the 700s and have the same capacity while burning allot less fuel. Plus they are much nice to fly on to. The age of the RJ's is quickly coming to an end.

I wonder if they will redue the 4 College Special schemes just recently unveiled on CRJ-700's. Even though the value of RJ's has been drastically changed by the current enviorment the 70 seat version should be much easier to remarket than their smaller 50 seat counterparts.

    Cheers
