    12/9/06 @ IAD highlights/review (pics!)...

    Hi everyone,

Today was a very fun day at IAD. The weather was pretty fantastic for the most part, despite it being about 30 F degrees at noon! A bunch of IAD locals (including myself) and other spotters from the surrounding area came out today, as well as nyca's own Tommy Alfano! I think we all had a great time...here's a few pics from the day that I took, most of it is usual stuff:

    THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY!!!!

A great day to have been at Dulles :D Hope all is well in NY and I look forward to meeting you all in 1 month when I move to nyc!

Its amazing to see what was going on on the other side of Washington!
I did give a quick call to Tommy to see if I missed anything.

Great shots as always Josh, I really need to get down to IAD again for some spotting or well I need a little bit of spotting help since last time wasn't so succesful.

Nice catch of G-VRED and I'm sure Tommy was happy to see the United Triple Sevens again!

Really was a great day. I was thrilled to see my UAL Heavies, I love UAL's 767s, 777s and 747s. To me United's 747s are the best looking 747s in the sky, old and new colors. The Virgin A340 is stunning, I got a close look at her from my B6 flight. We were parked right next to her, truly an impressive plane. I'll do some editing tomorrow night and post some of my favorite shots.

    Great shots!

I really need to do some spotting at IAD. It's not that far away from NYC and the variety is great.

I'm not. While JFK easily beats IAD, IAD has plenty (most of which is of interest to me) that JFK doesn't --Ethiopian, various special foreign gov't planes, Austrian 330, UA galore, change of location...

We're all entitled to our views.

    Will,

Here it goes. Ethiopian used to fly to IAD via EWR. They might start doing it again in the spring. Various government planes - hit or miss. Usually they come during weekdays. Austrian A330 yesterday was their last day flying A330s to North America :) Starting today we get B767 and starting in May B777. UA 777s and 767s fly to JFK. We have only 2 daily UAL 747s.
I'm not trying to make anti-IAD advertisement, but for NYC folks our airport should be low on the "to do" list :)

Yesterday was so cold that Tommy is probably still searching for his balls :) Talk about love for aviation :)

That's funny, they all look like 757s to me! :)

We haven't seen scheduled United 767s in quite some time, I believe since around the time they retired the -200s. The 777s were pulled out in October when the NRT service was moved down to IAD and they sold rights for their LON flights to Delta. So now, all have are new-colored narrowbodies on Premium Service runs to LAX and SFO.

I've only been to Dulles to spot once, but I would definitely go back. I love the angle you guys have from the parking garage, with the clear-shot of the runway where all the good stuff happens. :)

    Okay--I'll revise my statement.

    IAD has a good/decentvariety.

Great shots Tommy, love the Virgin as well.

I just noticed that Southwest doesn't have any titles on the fuselage!

I'm in talks with my dad about taking a day trip down to IAD for some spotting, would you say it's worth the $258?
