Believe it or not, the live Christmas trees that seem to be sold on almost every US street corner around this time of year are not so readily available in many parts of the world.

Air Berlin wants to help those of us with less access to festive indoor foliage. Anyone flying the German carrier through Christmas can bring along a Christmas tree up to 2-meters (6-feet) tall for free.
They’ll do it on any route. So if you’re spending Christmas in Dubai or Seville, you can now enjoy the holiday with a seasonably appropriate plant. Or if you’re in New York but would prefer a German tree over the commonly sold Canadian evergreens, Air Berlin is your airline.
(Sorry, they won’t let you sit next to your tree. It’ll fly in the cargo hold.)
If you’re already booked on an Air Berlin flight, all you need to do is let the Air Berlin customer service know about your tree at least 48 hours before departre. You should also check customs rules at your destination beforehand, as most countries do have restrictions on entering with plants, depending on the type and the origin.
Don’t have a tree but want to fly with Santa? You might aim for a flight on Air Berlin’s newest Boeing 737-800, D-ABMJ, which wears a giant Santa Face and is dubbed “Santa Claus Tour 2012”.
