WestJet on Monday announced that it had entered a codeshare agreement with British Airways.
Effective immediately, the deal allows British Airways to market and sell WestJet-operated flights out of Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto to Ottawa, Edmonton and Victoria. The two airlines already had an interline agreement which began in October 2010.
British Airways becomes WestJet’s eighth codeshare partner and second in Europe, joining American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, China Eastern Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Japan Airlines, KLM and Korean Air on the overall list. WestJet also has interline agreements with 20 airlines.
“We are very pleased to announce a code-share relationship with British Airways,” said Bob Cummings, WestJet’s Executive Vice-President, Sales, Marketing and Guest Experience in a statement. “The launch of this new code-share represents another strategically significant milestone for WestJet. We remain committed to bringing top-quality airlines on board as part of our airline partnership strategy. The success of this strategy has contributed to the strong results we’ve seen so far this year.”
Lynne Embleton, British Airways’ director of strategy and business units, said: “Our partnership with WestJet is great news for our customers. It will enable easier travel from Canada’s gateway cities to destinations that have been more difficult to access from the U.K.”
