Ever wonder, like I have, about the soothing, authoritative, but motherly voice you hear at the airport, reminding you not to leave your luggage, or that your 8:30 flight to Orlando has been delayed? Like, “is she a real person or a computer?” or “I’m at Charles DeGaulle Airport, didn’t I hear that same lady in the Times Square subway station yesterday?”

This CBS News profile of Carolyn Hopkins answers all those questions, and more. She’s the 63-year-old woman who, over the past 15 years, has recorded announcements for over 200 airports and for various train stations from the comfort of her home studio in northern Maine.
