JetBlue Offering $4 ‘Carmageddon’ Flights Between Long Beach and Burbank

JetBlue Airbus A320 N605JB on final approach to JFK Airport in New York by Matt Molnar

There may be some hope in the air for weary SoCal drivers as the 405 Freeway is closed for construction.

JetBlue announced that it would operate two roundtrip “planepools” between Long Beach International Airport and Bob Hope Airport in Burbank on the first day the busy highway is shut down, Saturday, July 16.

Seats will go for $4 each, or $5 for travelers who want to lounge away the 45 minute flight over Los Angeles in a premium “Even More Space” seat.

“We’re helping Angelenos get over the gridlock altogether and enjoy the Valley or the beach, their favorite soccer match or a food festival, without having to brave the traffic jams to get there,” said Mark Rogers, JetBlue’s L.A. marketing manager.

“I congratulate JetBlue on taking their customer service to new heights by providing alternatives for travelers in the L.A. Basin during ‘Carmageddon’ weekend,” said Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster. “JetBlue’s solution to Carmageddon will allow everyone in the L.A. Basin to visit Long Beach this weekend and enjoy a weekend of fun on the beach just a quick flight from Burbank.”

The New York-based airline is also offering 40.5 percent discounts on airfare from Long Beach or Burbank to Las Vegas when purchased as part of a JetBlue vacation package, plus an additional $40.50 off the entire package.
