Delta Air Lines has filed applications with US and European authorities for permission to fly to London-Heathrow Airport (LHR) from both Boston-Logan (BOS) and Miami International (MIA).

Both services would operate year-round, with Boston flying twice daily, and Miami going once a day. Delta says they will launch the flights on March 27th, 2011 if approved.

The Heathrow operating rights to be used for these flights were formerly held by American Airlines and British Airways, who were forced to divest a number of slots at the tightly-controlled airport as a condition of their being allowed to form a trans-Atlantic alliance. Both American and British currently serve Boston and Miami from Heathrow, as does Virgin Atlantic.

BOS-LHR would be flown with 767-300ER aircraft fitted with 36 seats in BusinessElite and 180 in Economy.
Flight 270: Departs BOS 7:00pm | Arrives LHR 6:45am
Flight 144: Departs BOS 9:45pm | Arrives LHR 9:35am
Flight 271: Departs LHR 10:30am | Arrives BOS 1:25pm
Flight 145: Departs LHR 1:30pm | Arrives BOS 4:25pm

MIA-LHR would use 767-300 aircraft which seat 24 in First Class and 238 in Economy.
Flight 260: Departs MIA 5:30pm | Arrives LHR 7:30am
Flight 261: Departs LHR 10:20am | Arrives MIA 3:25pm
