2001 – Scandinavian Airlines Flight 686, an MD-87 (registered SE-DMA), collided on its departure roll in Linate Airport in Milan, Italy, with a Cessna Citation II (registered (D-IEVX), killing a total of 118 people. Visibility was less than 200 meters, and the Cessna took a different taxi route than ordered, rolling across runway 36R while the MD-80 began its departure. The two aircraft hit, with the SAS losing an engine and managing to climb to 35 feet before coming back down to Earth, crashing into a luggage hangar beyond the end of the runway. There were two people on the Cessna who perished, and four ground personnel that were killed as well. Four people, air traffic controllers and airport management, were sent to jail for 3-8 years for negligence in the crash.

This diagram shows the path of the aircraft as they taxied around the airport, showing where the Cessna was supposed to go, as opposed to what it actually did.
