    Nellis AFB Red Flag 2014

I was very disappointed on my first ever red flag. Everything on departure which started late way after noon was high, far and backlit. My 500mm seemed useless and at times struggled to focus on some of the dark black schemes. I've concluded January is the worst time for red flag so if you plan to visit, plan for spring or October. There will be plenty of light left when they return since what goes up must come down. Anyway here is some highlights.

F/22 Raptor first appearance in my collection

F-35A Joint Strike Fighter another first in my collection

    F-15C

    F-16DM

    F-15C

    F-16

    Royal Australian Air Force E-7A

    USAF Boeing KC-135R

    USAF Lockheed Martin EC-130H

I hope yo enjoyed and as always there is more on flickr.

Very nice... I still have not gone to Red Flag... I should plan it and cross it off the list :)

Fasil, almost every Red Flag departure will be hard to shoot when they depart that way, with the exception of the Aggressors when they Flex. They have cancelled October flag every year since I have started going, back in 2010. The first 2 flags of the year are generally considered to be the best for photography, for what it's worth. What you have here looks great anyways!

Fasil, my above comment may not have been clear. I would NOT plan for the October flag, it has not been held since 2010 at the very least. They always cancel it.

Even though the lighting wasn't great you got a awesome collection of rare planes!
It seems like they're pretty photographer friendly there.
Were those taken from "The Speedway"?
