Military Aviation Museum Visit - many pictures

Here are some photos from a recent visit to the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia. I was amazed
at the amount of rare warbirds present. And almost all of their arircraft are in flyable condition.

    Curtiss Commando C-46 flyover

    Yak-3

This Fairchild PT-19A took up a passenger despite high crosswinds

Never seen one of these before, a de Haviland DH-82 “Dragon Rapide”

    FG-1D Corsair

    Aichi D3A Val replica

    Boeing P-26 Peashooter

    Lavochkin LA-9

P-51D Mustang - Double Trouble Two

Supermarine Spitfire Mk 1Xe - note the shadow of the unique elliptical wing shape

Superb attention to detail on the Spitfire machine gun

    Hawker Hurricane

Focke Wulfe FW-190 kicks up some dust

    North American-T28-D Trojan

Junkers Ju 52 - interesting corrugated construction

    B-25 "Wild Cargo"

    PBY 5-A Catalina

    Cockpit of the Catalina

    Boeing B-17G "Chuckie"

B-17 Control yoke - years of wear shown here.

B-17 Bombardier view - the best view in the plane

One thing I learned from this trip is that I need a fisheye lens!!!

    Thanks for looking...

a flying C-46?? wow dude i'm jealous!! the FW-109 is awesome!
it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

    Thanks guys.

Chris, the Me-262 only flew the next day, I am sorry I missed it. Years ago you told me to go to this museum and I finally got around to it. You were right - it is well worth it!

Thanks for the kind words guys - much appreciated.

Here's the last few from the museum:

    P-40 Warhawk

    Hawker Fury MK1

    Douglas AD-4 Skyraider

    Jungmeister - aerobatic plane

Interior of the PBY Catalina - quite comfortable!

V-1 Flying Bomb - This is not a replica, it was discovered in a tunnel in Germany in 1989

    Thanks again for looking

Even being at Thunder Over Michigan every year doesn't make me jaded when it comes to these old beauties, great set of shots, especially the C-46 flyover!
