Scott AFB '09 Airshow Prep Day (18 Sep)

Uploading a few for everyone's perusal... Would like to apologize in advance, as I
tanked my settings on most shots, so they're a bit noisy and/or soft.

    Cheers!

Arkansas ANG A-10... I'm liking the Razorback art on the nose, but it did look better
up on the tails of their old Vipers...

A duo of the Tyndall Heritage QF-4E... The guys who brought this old war horse were super cool
and you can tell they really love their job and old "Double Ugly."

    Whiteman T-38 companion trainer arriving...

ILANG had their "new" R model out on display...

    Next bunch...

The C-9 lives on... 932AW spent 2 days polishing this old gal, and the TLC really shows...

The 932AW's new ride, the C-40C. Essentially a VIP configured 737-700, and not a BBJ
    like the ones Andrews owns...

Scott's primary mission aircraft, the C-21 (or the "4 star mailing tube")...

An Army C-12 arrives for display...

The 445AW at Wright Patterson AFB was the final user of the C-141, and this one's been sitting
out in the open at Scott since delivery for display in '06. She's looking rather ratty these days...

The Golden Knights' F-27 jump ship...

More to follow in the AM, once I get home from work...

    Cheers!

Huss, I don't know where to start. GREAT stuff. The shiny C-9, that "jaw" art on the QF-4E, the C-141, I can't pick a favorite.

    Niiice. I don't think I had ever seen a C-141 before. Freaky.

What is that inflatable structure behind the C-12?
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.
All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them under control.
I trust you are not in too much distress. —Captain Eric Moody, British Airways Flight 9

I think it's the Army's America's Army Virtual Army Experience center.

Mucho thanks for the kind words, fellas! Phil, you may have a bit more trouble finding a favorite after seeing some of what's coming up...

VAW-125 brought their newly re-propped E-2C... Sounds like a swarm of angry wasps at most pitches, maybe except when on approach. Looks weird, too...

Laughlin AFB sent this T-6... Typical spotless AETC trainer.

In lieu of an AMC unit (we're nearly 100% tasked for the C-17 fleet), the schoolhouse at Altus sent a C-17 for display. Got quite a few odd looks from the cockpit windows as they taxied by and I snapped away...

A McGuire KC-10 just after blocking in and shutting down...

"Strobes" and his WSO bring "Nickel 211" into the static park area...

Putting 211 to bed for static display.

So, needing a few hours of sleep after working all night... Will post some more later!

OK, awake again and posting up a few more... Flying display aircraft, but on the ground.

Snowbird 11, basking in the AM sunlight...

    Viper West backup aircraft...

    Strike Eagle demo primary bird...

Hornet West TacDemo bird being prepped...

Artsy shot during the Snowbirds practice session...

Hornet TacDemo driver gesturing for a few of us photobugs...

    A few more to follow!

    Last of the bunch...

    Vance AFB T-1 Jayhawk...

Another artsy one, KC-10 between C-17 engines...

    Dyess- based workhorse...

Not at all a great pic, but... Blowers on, wings vaping, speed of HEAT. Strike Eagle show of
    force pass!

Another that should be better... USAF Heritage flight break at show center.

    Thanks for looking!

Great shots Brian! Looks like it was quite a show! Love seeing the Rhino shots (the real Rhino, not that Navy wanna-be ) The F-4 has always been a favorite of mine.

Thanks, Moose! It looked to be a decent show, but rather light on static displays. Flying-wise, it was better than average but the Snowbirds only did a solos practice since the lead's jet tanked shortly after takeoff. Not sure what the numbers for Saturday were, but Sunday's show was rained out.

I'd agree heartily, there's only one Rhino and it's a J-79 powered brick with wings! Only jet with a higher coolness factor than the Phantom was the Tomcat...

How 'bout one more for the Phantom Phans out there?
