    2007 The Best

Hi, as the name of the topic says, I would like you to post here top 10-15 of you this year.
Either motive wise or some rare plane, it's up to you. Also you can write some story about the photo, conditions, in which it was taken,... and why it is your highlight...
I will start with 10 and add some after I return from VIE, ZRH and MAD on 30th maybe.
    So let's go...
    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php? ... 20&nseq=12
That was definitely my highlight this year, but I was a bit dissapointed, as I was buying drink as it was coming and I didnt make it to spot in time, so I have only ramp shot...

    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php? ... 27&nseq=17
A spotting trip to Milan, which was good, except that to get to the spot, I had to walk for more than 2 hours, but the results were worth it and MD11 is probably my most favourite aircraft...

    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php? ... 29&nseq=16
Not rare aircraft, but it was my first visit to that spot and I really enjoyed it...

    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php? ... 1&nseq=220
It was my dream to see AF1 in action and didn't know it would become true after one year of spotting...

    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php? ... 7&nseq=193
My favourite nightshot taken handheld after deboarding BTS-HHN flight...

    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php? ... 79&nseq=92
Highlight of my trip to BUD... It was really hard to get home, I had problems buying bus ticket, as most of 'magyars' didn't understand me...

    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php? ... 2&nseq=118
Simply the BEST... color scheme... I love it! And I also like that angle...

    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php? ... 13&nseq=57
Peter Max, I think it's luck, that I've seen it in 3 weeks 2 times at two different airports... First time at CDG and this one is from FRA...

    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php? ... 718&nseq=2
I love MD11 and that one just set engines power to full and then suddenly deployed reversers... Don't know reason, but it was nice addition to my AMS spotting trip...

    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php? ... 8&nseq=166
The last one for now, common Swiss Avro, but I just love the surroundings...

I hope you like them and I'm looking forward to seeing yours.

    Regards, Keishi

    Re: 2007 The Best

Mine is very easy...Its my 787 shots.

    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=6013870

    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=6013869

    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=6014582

A few reasons you can easily venture why, it’s my best of 2007, for one yes it’s my most popular photos of the year but there's so many other things that go along with the shot. For me it was the birth of a new age in aviation and to be there on day one and to be able to touch it and feel it is truly something I will never forget. The weekend itself that lead to the shot was a great weekend. I spent Thursday evening spotting in Vancouver followed by Friday morning touring Vancouver for what will prob be my last time there for a good while. Spending time with good friends that weekend. Lastly I just love the plane; she just has the most beautiful lines IMO of any plane flying today. That entire weekend had to be one of the best weekends of 2007.

    #1. New York State Police
I always wanted to see one of the NYSP helicopters. I would have prefered to see the Huey or the 430 instead, but this one's a start!

    #2. John Travolta's N707JT
Since I first saw it on Oprah, I've always wanted to see it in person. I thought I would have had to go to Los Angeles to see it!
    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=6048486

    #3. Lockheed Jetstar II
The Jetstar is definately my favorite business jet. Now that they've become rarer and rarer in the world, I never thought I'd see one. I never thought I'd see one at AVP!
    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=6053186

    #4. Venezuela Air Force 737-200
This is one of my favorites because I find it interesting that it has flown two very unliked men - President Chavez and President Ahmadinejad
    [jetphotos]http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=6073408

#5. United States Air Force C-37A
I had wanted a shot of a C-37A for my collection of Presidential/Special Air Missions planes. I never expected it to be at AVP that day! I really never expected to ever see one of these at AVP.

This is my first airborne shot that actually turned out

    #7. Kazakhstan Government 767
This one's special because it was the first 767 I saw, the first foreign registered plane I saw, and I'm a big Borat fan!

#8. Washington Bolling Air Force Base, DC (My Top Pick)
I love US Presidential planes/helicopters! It was luck that there was a VH-3D taking off when I got the picture.

I got to tour this bird back in '06 but didn't get a shot of it. Suddenly, as I was waiting for my WN flight, it takes the runway. I was very happy to meet my old friend.

I love the light on this shot. Plus, this shot tells the story of the 15 Amish spotters that Nick Greed and I met at DTW that day. Probably the most funny spotting story I have...

    Re: 2007 The Best

I'll do my top aircraft catches of 2007.

    Favorite Catch #1

After a couple of failed attempts to visit Toulouse while I was living in Madrid for the year back in 2004 and missing it during the visit to New York I finally caught up with the A380 in Montreal. I had previously shot it at BDL but in bad weather.

    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=6109063

    Favorite Catch #2

Vietnam has one of my favorite liveries of all time. I've been dying to get a shot of their 777-200 and amazingly enough it visited SWF for UN Week.

    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=6091404

    Favorite Catch #3

What a rarity in the US!

    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=6074207

    Favorite Catch #4

Like Chris mentioned catching the Kazak 767-200 was amazing thing.

    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=6130723

    Favorite Catch #5

I was very surprised that Travolta had his 707 parked up at SWF. After a 3 month stay I finally captured a good shot of her.

    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=6126611

    Favorite Catch #6

The Cubana IL-96 speaks for itself.

    [airlinerstp://www.airliners.net/open.file/1300132/L/[/airlinersFavorite Catch #7

The Aeromexico 777-200 in new colors.

    [airlinerstp://www.airliners.net/open.file/1300779/L/[/airlinersFavorite Catch #8

Air Comet A320. Once I saw the new Air Comet livery on the A340-300 I fell in love with it. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a shot of the livery on the A340-300 or A330-200 but I did catch it on an A320. Hopefully in March when I'm in Chile I'll be able to get a shot of the A340-300.

    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=6122360

    Favorite Catch #9

Spotting in Cuzco I was not expecting to get anything besides LAN A319s and classic 737-200s but I was very surprised to get the German A310.

    [airlinerstp://www.airliners.net/open.file/1244181/L/[/airlinersFavorite Catch #10

A very rare catch in North America and my main goal to get while visiting Montreal. The flight arrived after the sun had set but I manged to pull off a panning shot.

    Re: 2007 The Best

Since I took up photography just this year it is hard to pick out my best photos. But, here they are, sorted by popularity:

    10. I met up with John Jauchler since he was in town. I took him on a tour of the Delta TOC only to find this beauty in for an engine change:
[airlinerstp://www.airliners.net/open.file/1301719/L/[/airliners9. Another shot-by-chance, being at the right place and the right time. I took this from inside a DL 767-432ER.
[airlinerstp://www.airliners.net/open.file/1266728/L/[/airliners8. I left the U.S. Navy in August of this year and it seems fitting one of my top 10 of 2007 is a Navy F/A-18, the airplane I worked on as an avionics technician.
[airlinerstp://www.airliners.net/open.file/1277382/L/[/airliners7. It's well known that I love Delta's new colors and new colored birds are showing up daily here in Atlanta it seems. This is N908DL, the first MD-88 to be painted in the new dress.
[airlinerstp://www.airliners.net/open.file/1272731/L/[/airliners6. This shot speaks for itself. I was the only photographer who didn't get a backlit shot of the first A380 departure from MCO. This is F-WWJB.
[airlinerstp://www.airliners.net/open.file/1297089/L/[/airliners5. Another shot of Delta's new colors MD-88.
[airlinerstp://www.airliners.net/open.file/1292302/L/[/airliners4. Delta is certainly an airline in transition with an identity crisis, as shown here. Three liveries, the '97, '00, and '07 colors all on 757s.
[airlinerstp://www.airliners.net/open.file/1295243/L/[/airliners3. My personal favorite shot of the year, Delta's 777-232ER simulator modeled after N860DA. This shot has recently been published on a billboard in New Zealand by an advertising firm.
[airlinerstp://www.airliners.net/open.file/1287705/L/[/airliners2. Another simulator shot, this time a 737-832.
[airlinerstp://www.airliners.net/open.file/1260195/L/[/airliners1. My most popular shot of 2007, Delta's 767-432ER simulator.
[airlinerstp://www.airliners.net/open.file/1274008/L/[/airlinersIt's been a great year. I've made many new great friends and discovered a hobby I'll likely enjoy for a lifetime! :borat:

I wish I could post the Cubana YAK42 as my shot of the year but that one will have to wait.
Of course you all know what my top #1 shot is...
I'll just post three or four.

    Re: 2007 The Best

Brilliant thread, Keishi! I really enjoy the fashion by which we can understand the importance of images taken by photographers here.

There have been numerous images I'm pleased with from 2007, however, the following are the most meaningful to me.

#10 -- Finnair MD-11 -- Though not particularly an amazing shot by any means, this shot symbolizes my joy from capturing my absolute favorite carrier at JFK.

    [airlinerstp://www.airliners.net/open.file/1174207/L/[/airliners
#9 -- Air France B777-200 -- A shot capturing the mighty t7 in action, from my favorite summer spotting location at my home airport.

    [airlinerstp://www.airliners.net/open.file/1288052/L/[/airliners
#8 -- Thai Airways Int'l A340-500 -- After about a year of hoping to catch this beautiful airplane from this angle, I finally was presented with an awesome opportunity.

    [airlinerstp://www.airliners.net/open.file/1229390/L/[/airliners
#7 -- Volga Dnepr AN124 -- I had been wanting to photograph a russian aircraft for the longest time, and after several years, had my chance!

    [airlinerstp://www.airliners.net/open.file/1238301/L/[/airliners
#6 -- TAP Portugal A330-200 -- The highlight of my time spent spotting in Salvador, Brasil.

    [airlinerstp://www.airliners.net/open.file/1221135/L/[/airliners
    #5 -- Kazakhstan Government B767-200 -- ..."Uzbek A$$HOLES!"

    [airlinerstp://www.airliners.net/open.file/1287967/L/[/airliners
#4 -- Austrian A330-200 -- Though not taken in 2007 (barely), it was uploaded not too long ago. This is my favorite scheme on any A330, after Air Greenland.

    [airlinerstp://www.airliners.net/open.file/1197251/L/[/airliners
    #3 -- Virgin Atlantic A340-300 -- Couldn't have asked for a better 31L departure here...What a bank.

    [airlinerstp://www.airliners.net/open.file/1179590/L/[/airliners
#2 -- Air Tahiti Nui A340-300 -- Close up and personal with one of the hottest schemes on an A340, in my opinion.

    [airlinerstp://www.airliners.net/open.file/1226563/L/[/airliners
#1 -- Singapore Airlines Cargo B747-400 -- Standing 20 feet away from the giant upon takeoff...one of the most exhilirating experiences of my life.

    [airlinerstp://www.airliners.net/open.file/1234930/L/[/airliners

    Bring on 2008!!! :D

    Re: 2007 The Best

No fair, Senga - your "boring" stuff is cooler than most us see

I don't know that all my top photos are uploaded, but I'll stick with my top 10 jp.net shots from 2007:

10 - I'm a Boeing fan, but getting to be up-close for the first time this beast arrived in the US was a special treat of 2007.
    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=5941037

9 - Just yards away from a Thunderbird touching down? Priceless...
    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=6038761

8 - From the American Airpower Museum night shoot, it's been on my laptop desktop for months.
    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=6038760

7 - My favorite shot from the AAM night shoot. Thanks again, Fred!
    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=6038777

6 - The highlight of UN week for me.
    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=6071665

5 - I love the angle on this shot, departing LGA Kids Day. I've met the pilot who was flying her that day a few times, a really nice guy!
    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=6079113

4 - An old friend, from my visit back to Grissom AFB in November. Interestingly, I ended up at the museum there on Veterans Day.

    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=6116210
3 - I don't think anyone would argue with me on this one...
    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=6117288

2 - From my Stearman ride at Bayport, first time I've been in an open cockpit biplane, too cool for words!
    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=6006292

1 - After seeing how this shot turned out, I was ready to sell my camera gear, I figure I'll never top this one.
    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=5999941

There's probably another 5 or 10 that I could have put on this list as well. I've gotten some great photos this year, but more importantly, I've had some incredible experiences, met some new friends from far and near, and got to spend time with some terrific people, including the folks here.

Here's to an even better year in 2008!

shooting on the FRG ramp at night was fun as ever. i hadn't been there in years, especially ramp side since i did my flight training years ago. it was also the first time that i didn't have issues with the Airpower Museum people. the driver's window motor did decided to burn out though, and dinner was great!

didn't take many trips this year, but did make two very fun trip to the Udvar-Hazy center near IAD.

of course i can never forget airshow season, and even though i didn't go to many shows around here i did make it out to SNS again. next time, it'll have to be RNO and SNS in the same trip!

and then there are the fringe benefits that i get from working where i work. the light is simply gorgeous at times during the year, and i only wish i had the flexability at work to shoot more often. ron definately has a plus in not owning an SLR to schlep around.

as always, the best times i had this year weren't within reach of a camera. i added a new type rating to my logbook, and am almost done with school now. hope that 2008 is going to be another good year for me, and i hope i get to start it with another Udvar-hazy trip. johnna, get ready!
it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

    1. This was my first shot on the net after many failed attempts with many other shots.
    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=5997793

    2. This is my favorite paint scheme on any plane. It combines both of my hobbies, flying and fishing.
    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=5999848

    3. This shot completed my collection of all of the AS liveries, and it has a funny little story on how i got this shot.
    http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=6125820

    4. These two are about equal. They were taken with my new XTi and every time I look at them, it reminds me how much I love the country and the fun I had this summer.

I'm gonna just go with my 3 favorites:

#1 Malaysia's Freedom of Space (9M-MRD) I had been trying to get a good shot of this plane for over a year. It eluded me for a while but final was able to get it with the right conditions.

#2 Virgin Atlantic A340-600 Just a shot I really liked, seems sort of fake looking to me.

#3 Icelandair Cargo 757 I really liked the composition with the city and Avianca holding short.

This is a tough one. I only got into photography this year, and I only got a good camera two weeks ago, so the pickings are a bit slim. A few of my favorites, in chronological order:

    The A380 in March:

Habitat in May, my first NYCA spotting trip:

Over the summer, I upgraded to a Canon S3. It was a big improvement over my pocket point-and-shoot, but I'm still embarassed to post most of the pics I took with it. Here's my favorite; even though it's overexposed, it's a neat shot:

Camera #3, a Panasonic Lumix FZ50, was good enough for aviation photography, but that's about it. It got me my first JP acceptance:

Most frustrating moment of the year: Pink Delta came in three days in a row, and I tried to get it all three days. Day 1, it didn't end up being Pink Delta. Day 2, a cloud descended below the arrival path about 10 minutes before the landing:

Day 3, it came in on 31L (DOH!!). That pic is so backlit I'm not even going to try.

Two weeks ago, I finally bought a DSLR. And on my first trip out with it, I got one of my must-catches:

It can only get better from here... :)
