EWR Photo Recap - 8/18 (First Pics With my D80)

After receiving my new D80 last week I was very excited to try it out. Luckily I was on my way down to the Jersey Shore for 4 days and persuaded my father to stop at EWR on the way down to try and catch Jet Airways. Unfortunately Jet arrived early and instead I hung out at Ikea for a little while shooting some departures and ended up eating Ikea Swedish meat balls. While down in Avalon my dad took me up to the Atlantic City airport for a little while which resulted in no great pictures because there really wasn't any spots but there are some amazing aircraft parked at the airport. Among them are a TWA Convair-880, ex-Delta L-1011, ex-Air Canada 737-200, ex-Global Peace 747SP, and a C-17 were among some of the cool residents of the airport.

Today I was also lucky enough to persuade my father into spotting at EWR for a while in order to catch Qatar. Unfortunately the 4's were in operation so we had to find a spot and amazingly we just sat near the employee parking lot behind a light pole and had two cops pass us and did not stop. We were there for a good hour!

    Please enjoy!

There are some dust spots already so let me know if you catch any of them and I'll edit them out.

Cool photos Gordon! Does the D80 have dust reduction beyond picture-reference?

Very nice clean shots. I drove by EWR yesterday going to/from Jersey Gardens and the Jet 773 was parked on a hard stand next to an El Al 772 near Terminal B and A. It was still there around 3.

As the aircraft arrives at 11:55 and doesn't depart till the evening the park her at a remote stand next to EL AL. When I was at the airport yesterday I saw her being moved from the hardstand to the gate.

Another interesting thing was that after Malaysia arrived she taxied down and held by Terminal A for a while, not sure why.

Nice shots Gordon, especially considering you have a new camera. Always takes some time getting used to a new camera.

Mike P., Anne and I were also at EWR for the last hour of action on Sat. Unfortunately the sunset didn't materialize the way I'd wished, but we got a few good ones that last hour. Here's a few ...

    Good luck with the camera.

Thanks, Art. I'm quite surprised how well the D80 is operating for me.

From the looks of it we must have been spotting very close to each other!
