why do you think they are there?

I often wonder why we get a sporadic military jet there. And I dont mean the small military biz jets, but the occasional chopper or warfare machine.

I can understand the all white 25002 757 coming in and carrying some military or politicos though.
And I, I took the path less traveled by
and that has made all the difference......yet...
I have a feeling a handle of people are going to be very interested in what I post in the near future.

Sometimes pilots have some time off, but still fly their planes to get some more required flying time in. I know there's an F-18 pilot who shows up once and a while visiting friends in the area.
    Shoot first, ask questions later.

I got some tonight of the Viking....Nothing worth posting. Handheld at night with my 50MM and I could not get the entire plane in frame....and tons of foreground clutter! Crap!

They were still there this morning (Sunday) when I drove by. I haven't heard/seen them take off yet either. With all the fog this morning, I left the camera home....and now it's clearing up. Damn!

Aw man, I saw the time of your post to be 2: 01! They took off at 2:01pm.(exactly, as I caught a ****ty shot on my phone and it records time)

I was driving to my folks place in Babylon and saw the Vikings lining up from 110. So I cut down that short rd from 110 to 56th Fighter and parked in time to see them line up.

They lined up on the runway, One about 50-100 feet ahead of the other, but not directly in front of the other.

Then they spooled up engines simultaneously, the one rolled out and just prior to his takeoff, just after the runway intersection, the second one released brakes. So they were both active on the same runway for a short amt of time

Always had a soft spot in my heart for the ignored Vikings...they just sounded like small biz jets taking off, just in formation.

wonder if someone got good photos.

saw them out the office window. I like how the first one took off and just kinda stayed level at 300 ft until the 2nd went airborne.

OK, so it's been a hundred years since I flew out of FRG, but I'm looking at the airport diagram (you know, the official, FAA approach plate type) and I don't see no taxiway Kilo. Is that one of the taxiways down by the south end biz-jet area?

Yes it is. We are south of the terminal, north of Atlantic. Does "B5" taxiway show on your diagram? That's the runway turnoff onto taxiway Kilo.

I see where you mean. 25 years ago, when I got my PPL, I flew out of Flightways, which later became MillionAire, which is now something else, right down the taxiway from you.

It is now Atlantic, But you can still see the outlines of MillionAire on some
    of the hangars....dirty as hell!

    Correct, Millionair is now Atlantic.

I'll try to remember my Sony digital camera this Sunday, and take a picture to give you guys an idea of the "view."
