Cropping tips

Bellucciman sent me a PM asking to elaborate on this, so I figured I'd share with the class in case anyone else had questions.

When resizing ANY photo, you MUST constrain proprotions in order to keep it "pure," otherwise you're pretty much destroying the quality of it (and it will look strange).

I know that the desired result is usually 1024x683 and if you check "constrain proprotions" when resizing after a freehand crop, you might get a different measurement. That is why you should just crop TO 1024x683 to begin with. This way, you will automatically have the desired crop and size/proportions that you (and Anet/JP) prefer.

NOTE: Be certain that you type in "px" after the # you enter in the box or else it defaults to inches and will most likely crash Photoshop when you try to crop to 1024 inches by 683 inches.

Also, you can put in 3 and 2 to have a 3x2 ratio and then resize after you have done your editing.

Also, you aren't restricted to 1024x683. There's always 1200x800 and vertical options as well. Just showing you WHERE to put it.

Good point, I use Fergul's #s. 14.45cm x 9.64cm

I suggest you read this PDF it's a good foundation to build your workflow.

Once you get the hang of it experiment. I like to use rotate canvas to level the pic then crop with the above #s then re-size at 1024 or 1200 or whatever.
