    KRIC- 7/5-6/2013

    Hello All,

Spent a few hours at Richmond International yesterday and the day before that, however with everything that happened yesterday, it didn't feel right to think about editing or posting at the time. We finally had a few good days of weather down here, for which I was very grateful.

Probably the closest I have ever seen an aircraft come to a bird strike

Taken about 15 minutes before sunrise

And finally, my first DC-9! I caught a USN C-9B a while ago, but it was awesome to finally catch a bona-fide DC-9, which was an equipment sub for the usual MD-88.

    Hope you enjoyed,

    Nick

Thank you all! As the son of a former McDonnell Douglas employee, this catch had significant sentimental value for me, as it now means that I have photos of an operational example of every jet airliner family that Douglas/McD ever produced in a passenger configuration. The DC-9 was the only family I was missing, so this was certainly a nice way to complete that set!

Last time I was in a DC-9, it was a USN model at Oceana, on it's way to the chopping block. The A pillars are rusting on almost the entire remaining fleet. Great little plane, pilots love them but they are rusting in the wrong places.. how sad!

N675MC is another -51 that I'm tracking, DL still has a few left believe it or not. Caught one @ BNA last year

Not a DC9, but close enough. After a recent flight into LGA, I grabbed this shot while chatting with the captain. Man, I still love the old "steam gauges" in the MD-88.

nice to see some pictures from the old dominion that aren't DC or Norfolk area. Looks like it was a swell day for shooting with NO HAZE! A rare occurrence during Virginia summer months.

    Nice set Nick.
