    District 9

Went to see this movie after work deciding it was a good way to start my two weeks of vacation time. Boy was I ever right. What a tremendously exciting movie. Probably one of the best sci-fi/action films I have seen in a long long time. Without spoiling the plot it is about an alien ship that appears over Johannesburg, South Africa 20 years ago. Inside they find a whole population of aliens, malnourished and ill. They are transported to earth and set up in a holding camp named "District 9". Jump to 20 years later and the animosity between aliens and humans is at a fever pitch so it is decided to evict the aliens from D9 and set them up in a camp 20 miles out of Johannesburg. Well the aliens arent happy about that and the story, filmed as a documentary in the beginning, follows a govt beauracrat who is in charge of the evictions. What happens to him and the twists and turns the movie takes forms the basis of the flick.
And then it just takes off with non-stop action and incredible CGI especially the aliens.
There are numerous gun battles, lots of gore (but not overloaded and dwelled on) and a really fresh and intelligent plot. It also has a lot of humorous moments and some touching ones. Oh yeah and lots of cool helicopter scenes!!! :)
I give it 4 thumbs WAY UP!!!!

I saw it yesterday and to me it was a mediocre movie, it felt like it was ten hours long, the action was ok, but it had a very deep story. I think it would be 100 times better in book form.

A huge amount of it was filmed in South Africa - in the trailer - I heard South African accents, South African police vehicles - a lot of the scenery I recongnize - might have to see the movie....

I saw Transformers in Imax and besides my neck hurting for half the movie it was horrible compared to the first Michael Bay screwed it up and after this I don't know how they can make a third.

I also saw GI Joe and it was worse, it barely resembled G.I. Joe it had some story to it, but it just ended up being a kids action movie, with horrible CGI.

it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds, or helicopters to fly. fortunately, neither are aware of this.

I read the book which is usually a good indicator if the movie has some potential, & the book was kind of stupid as well.

When I heard that one of the Wayan brothers was going to be in the movie, I, knew to stay far away from the movie.

When I first heard about the GI Joe movie, I became excited. When I saw the trailer, I became disappointed. There is NOTHING that resembles GI Joe except for some names. All they did was create some sci-fi movie and tack on GI Joe names, tricking people to show up.

One day I actually hope to see a real GI Joe movie.
