Anyone try this lens? I am thinking about getting it. The 55-250mm is just not cutting it.

All the reviews I've read like it a lot. Seems to be a great value.Originally Posted by purexc00

Not sure where you are from, but see if you can rent one for a weekend first, and see if you like it. If there are no stores by you to rent, there are a bunch of good ones online that will let you try before you buy.Originally Posted by purexc00
Excellent idea. This place has them: http://www.lensrentals.com/rent/sigma-1 ... /for-canonOriginally Posted by lijk604

...and that's a great place. I used them this past Memorial Day, great service, packing was terrific, and no problems at all with the lens.Originally Posted by GothamSpotter
I WAS going to rent but see my b/f who is buying it will be happy if I rent it and then won't let me buy it lol. Going to go down to berger tomorrow and try out the lens and the canon 100-400mm
Deffinatly stay clean from long lenses from sigma like this.
I don't know about everyone else's experiences with sigma lenses, but I used to have the sigma 50-500.... terrible. So much light falloff, and not very sharp.
So yea if you a canon guy try a 100-400 you'll love it.
Or if you a nikon guy like me give the 80-400 a whirl or the 300mm F4 prime.

I am going to go play with both of them today and make up my mind. The 50-500 doesn't have OS where the 150-500 does. Might make a difference?
Here are some pictures taken with the Sigma

I like the cost of the Sigma much better then the canon. I also dunno how I am going to like the push pull of the canon.

Whoops didn't know we had antoher lady here on the forums lol.
The shots from the 150-500 are pretty good. Idk I'd check out dpreview.com and read some reviews from there.
Here are two of my shots from the 2007 Jones Beach Air Show, taken with the 50-500 not very contrasty...

LOL. I actually know a few people from here. I post a ton on airshowbuzz when the show is in town. I met fred a few times, moose once or twice, believe Grummanfan aka Dan, Chris S., CrimeSceneguy (not sure if he posts on here) and a few other people

i looked but didnt see many. I am guessing because it is newish. berger and cameta didn't have the Sigma. not sure if I like the push and pull of the canon. Cameta are a**holes though. Pretty much told me I am lying about the price of the canon online. A little over 1200 on amazon and they wanted 1500. i won't step foot in that store again if someone paid me to. They are rude people. berger is soooo much better!
Here is the lens online

Yea not what I really want.
i wish someone had it so I can see and hold it. the canon didn't seem to heavy. The guy at berger laughed when i said my camera, canon XSI, the lens looks huge on it. he was expecting a bigger camera to go with that lens lol. I chose the XSI because it felt good in my hands. I am not a big person. Looked at d80, d90, 40d and the XSI.
Or if you a NYC person, you could take a trip over to B and H or Adorama. I think Adorama seems to be a bit more personal and not one of those run of the mill stores. But either way they'd probably let you check out and try the lens.
Yea with my D50, the Sigma 50-500 looked way out of proportion to the camera.

Yea someone said that to me. i am really not a city person. I like to stay close to home. i might have to take a ride cause I don't want to spend 1000 on something i am not happy with. 1000 is a lot for me. I made my b/f by me a car in Feb, kind hard to make him spend more lolOriginally Posted by nikon50bigma
The photo of the B1 is good and the Sigma 150-500mm looks like a decent lens, the photo (4 afterburners) remind a bit of Concorde :)
But alas unlike the B1 which has the might of the USAF behind it, Concorde doesnt so it will never fly again :( :( :( :( :(
The Tokina 80-400 is also a good lens, i've had mine since 2001 and took all my Concorde photos with it.
Best lens is the Canon 100-400IS if you got the money go after that.
I bought the 100-400L several months ago - and I've never once been disappointed with my investment. The push pull is easy to get used to (for me), it's sharp, contrasty, and clear. I use it with a 40D and have used it once on both a 5D and an XTi - it's big. In any case, the only draw back is that it's tough to do night work with. I find that it blows around easily in a windy situation which shows up quickly in a longer exposure.
