I was in the Outer Banks this weekend, specifically looking for these shots. I wanted to get photos of the Bodie Island Lighthouse with the Milky Way. Bodie Island is perfect for this, as the beacon doesn't rotate like most lighthouses, but rather it illuminates like a light bulb, on and off. The "off" cycle is long enough for star shots. I just had to find the right window between the end of summer-season hotel rates in the OBX, the MW still visible, and as little Moon as possible.
