During a recent trip to Colorado I was fortunate enough to not break anything and had a free afternoon to make it out to Eagle County Regional Airport to check an item off the spotting bucket list. Flying in and out of Eagle for vacation was rather fun, as the approach path flies down the valley and weaves between mountains, with the departure being much like St. Maarten's requiring an immediate turn after takeoff.
It was an interesting change in climate from earlier in the morning, with near freezing temperatures skiing at 11,400 feet to 60s and sunny at EGE (about 6,500 feet). I climbed up a hill near the south side of the departure end of the runway that offers a similar view as the more famous water tower spot but it's less than half the distance from the airport. What EGE lacks in variety it more than makes up for in views!
Enjoy!
