I saw a Chinook that looked like the one in Moose's pic flying south over Massapequa around 6:30PM,
so I guess they got their engine problems fixed. BTW, was there any markings on the one at FRG ??
The only markings I saw on it was the serial number, in black, up near the top of the "tail" - 01646. Looks like it is 86-01646 out of Ft. Rucker. Army helos don't have many markings on them these days.

Must have been one carrying equipment/parts. Came in around 5:30 I heard. Today they moved the copter to the north side of the hangar and had a full crew working on the engine including an army truck with small crane!! They left without finishing and the Chinook sits there minus the right side engine. Got this from the Republic Facebook page (along with pics) thanks to Ken.
Lot more activity today including a visit by a UH-72 Lakota. Last report I got the engine was on. So what would be SOP? Some ground runups, a little flight testing around the field then up up and away?
Gerard, any new updates on the Chinook status and if it's still there yet ?
BTW, the Blue Jackets DC-9 should be arriving sometime today so keep an eye on Flightaware for more info soon.
Gerard, Chris and I were out there too.
I went back at sunset to try and capture some shots of the Chinook:
