Greetings all,
Time for yet another set from the Lone Star State. This one is my favorite bi-annual tradition, NASCAR weekend! Now I don't know much about racing, but I do love the swarm of bizjets that descend on my local airport when NASCAR comes to town, and as such, had planned to come up for the weekend since the beginning of the semester.
Like any good spotting weekend, this one starts with a great story. My goal for this trip was to catch Roush-Fenway Racing's 2nd 727, N727NK, which had eluded me for 3 years now. Imagine my horror and frustration upon seeing she would be landing at 1800 Thursday evening, 6 hours before my bus arrived. I was resigned to missing it yet again as I walked out of my exam that afternoon when I had an epiphany-I may be in Austin, my by camera gear was at the apartment in Roanoke. I had an idea. I quickly rang my father, who has been my intrepid spotting partner from Florida to Alaska and back, and asked him if, with my coaching and instruction, he would be willing to operate my gear and snag some shots for me. After 30+ minutes on the phone helping him to sort out the settings for the light I expected him to be presented with, and explaining proper shooting "technique" he headed for the airport, and I headed for class. I didn't expect much, but was pleasantly surprised with the results. So, making his NYC Aviation debut, with my editing assistance, and on his first spotting trip behind a camera, my not-as-bad-as-I-expected Father!
All in all, not bad for a first timer! Clearly I am an outstanding coach
Alright, now to my catch for the weekend's subsequent 3 days
To be continued...
