Here's the same A380 departing today:

Sorry that I missed that AN-124, I heard it on approach as I was waiting for the 380 to depart.

It varies as a lot of times traffic is routed over the Hudson or upstate NY. Sometimes (Usually on Cloudy days) Traffic gets routed over ME, NH, MA in a south west flow which brings it directly overhead. Wish I had a stronger lens then a 300mm to catch the action though, LOL. Here is the usual stuff I see daily from my house.

I hear ya on that. My house is the same for PVD and BOS traffic from my back yard with the ocassional European flight headed to JFK. When I step out to the front yard is when I see the JFK traffic headed back to out to Europe. Many times I will sit out on the deck with the 100-400mm and catch the traffic when I'm going through spotting withdrawls.

Thats what I was doing, I NEEEEED a trip to either BOS or JFK soon, lol. I know the pics aren't up to quality of closer shots but its better then nothing. If you want to see some serious spotting check out these guys, hell they even takes pics of the space station and sattelites!

I am at the point where a trip to BDL or PVD will suffice. The traffic may not be as good or as frequent, but it all boils down to photographing large metal objects floating in the air

Yeah, I only go to BDL if I'm going to spend an entire day there. Otehrwise its not worth me driving an hour to get there to catch 4 planes in one hour. But when I go I usually go to the subaru dealer in the AM if on 6 or to Hemlock Dr for arrivals on 6. I do have a favorite spot for afternoon 33 departures though.

There is a spotting at Kelly Container on Route 75 near BDL on the weekend only when the business is closed. The owner of the company doesn't mind when the spotters hanged out on the parking lot. No one would even bother you but the Suffield cop stopped by and chat with us for a while then he let us to stay here and the cop left with a friendly wave at us.

I have also found that if you continue north on Rte 75 and make a left at the first light after Kelly Container, drive one block and take another left and follow that road to a cul de sac you can go behind a business that appears to only use the front office and not the warehouse portion for a good unobstructed view of arrivals on 24. I like that spot better than Kelly since there are now power lines to get in the way and your not almost directly under the planes.
