International Flights to MacArthur in the Future?

International flights may come to MacArthur airport

Town of Islip officials have entered into talks with a European airline in the hopes of adding international flights to Long Island-MacArthur Airport, Islip supervisor Phil Nolan said today.

If a deal with the Dublin, Ireland-based Ryan Air and the town-owned airport is completed, flights to Dublin and other European destinations could begin next spring, Nolan said.

The announcement was made a news conference at the airport in Ronkonkoma, where Nolan also said that longtime airport commissioner Al Werner is retiring. More...

I think this could be very successful.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem.

Hell, I'd drive all the way out to ISP to spot a 738 arriving from Ireland. They're ETOPS rated, right?

Well this may very well be connected to WN's desire to codeshare on Intl flights. Might make a nice link up with WN flights. ISP does already have a customs office so that's not an issue.

They are more in line with the Skybus culture of who gives a crap though. It will be intresting to see if it did happen though.

    Heres the magic question

WHAT DO THEY PLAN ON SENDING TO KISP?

I don't think their 738s can do it even with extra fuel tanks it would have to be severely pax restricted.

The second thing to ask - would WN even dare to let them use their terminal? They have to park somewhere, maybe the LIE is good enough?

Will sure be a sight to see thats for sure.

God I hope Tommy's Prediction does not come true.

I have not heard once for ISP being a intl link, but not saying it isnt impossible.

I can confirm we are looking at SFO, PHL, BWI and HOU to an extent, ISP has never been brought up, internally or externally.

ISP would be new for me also to hear.

There is one customs officer and he isn't there all the time.

If Ryan Air flies to ISP, they're going to talk about how they now fly to New York.

I don't think it will ever happen. It's just talk--this is an election year after all.

I do not think Ryan would be successful in the US. Then again I have been wrong before.

Just think though now we'd have Euro trash at ISP......

Last I checked a map Adam Long Island is a part of New York. I'm sure they will advertise it as New York City as they do with the Euro cities. I'm hoping something comes of this for the simple fact that it will increase tax revenue for the town.

This would be interesting to see...but I would also like to see some other domestic airlines enter into ISP...I think they need to work on that as well. Three carriers with one providing a vast majority of the flights at the airport, to me, is not healthy. International service would be good, but I think ISP needs to get other domestic carriers in, such as AirTran, United, and Continental, along with upgrading the service they already have...Delta and US Airways, in my opinion would need bigger aircraft (Delta: MD-88, US Airways: A320).
Basically, for RyanAir to fly out of ISP successfully, you need domestic carriers to feed the international service, or people will just continue going to JFK or EWR. This is just how I look at it, however, I am always wrong, or at least I think I am.

I think other airlines need to serve ISP better period. Right now the virus runs rampid at that airport.

I have a feeling B6 is going to be the next airline to serve ISP. It makes perfect sense. ISP is defianatley going to have another carrier by the beginning of next year. Which one is unsure at the moment.
