C-130 has departed at 3:20pm
c-130 inbound just flew over my job in West Babylon
Saw 2 Blackhawks and a Chinook arrive from the South and do a quick go around at about 4:50pm. Heard A C-130 arrive around 5:30pm. Saw a RIANG Sherpa depart around 6:00pm and a C-130(no skis) follow about 15 minutes later.
Been busy having spent the day pulling wet insulation from a previous flooded crawl space, but I did see the Sherpa take off while at the Depot and thought about how loved it is here on this site.
The Blackhawks and Chinook did not do a go around. They landed took on a ton of guys in hard hats. There was a second set of Blackhawks and a Chinook that took on a second group. The men arrived on 3 NICE buses and assembled on Atlantic's ramp. They loaded on the "B" taxiway.
Earlier in the day Gov. Cuomo arrived in 1 ship of a 2 set of Blackhawks from the NY Air Guard. He departed on the same approx 3:30pm
Down in Long Beach today ripping apart a friends flooded basement and happened to catch a C-17 and C-130 into JFK.
Caught a glimpse of a C-17 yesterday flying low over my place out in Patchogue. Looked too high to have been off of or approaching Islip, but lower than the normal JFK traffic.
I saw the C17 at Triple Hangars last night.
All these military aircraft into FRG and no pics? Is the gas crisis impacting our spotting?
Finally had a full tank and did a quick run by FRG. US Park Police Eagle 2 (Bell 412) came in from the south west and landed over by Atlantic. Two pax came out but didnt see them picked up.
Mmm I'm not feeling the love here. :frown::smile: Yesterday was the first day I was able to get over to FRG in some time as I was able to fill my car up. Only got my power back late Monday night and my Optimum service yesterday afternoon. Before that I was able to post via my wifes IPad. It was an innocent question but i guess some people took it the wrong way. Oh well. Sorry guys.
just saw a large-ish plane land at FRG from a distance.
Winglets perhaps.
landed at FRG today 11-26-12 at 11:11 hrs. just wondering.
Charter Air Transport had 3 of their Embraers at FRG today parked at Atlantic including the one with the Mauiva livery. Since the Main Terminal is under FEMA occupation  the AC shuttles are going out of the Atlantic ramp. They are using the small building by the fence the Islanders used for access to the ramp.
Nice to be able to park in the lot by the Terminal as FEMA has left the room!! Not much going on as it was pretty windy with some nice gusts. Didnt stop Sky Limo 9885 (love that call sign), a Beechjet, blast off on a steep depart off 32 heading to FXE.
What a beautiful day here on L.I. and did a run by FRG!! Was heading home after a stop in Petco and I noticed the AAM L-39 revving up his engines!! Drove over to the lot by 1-9 and got myself a little taste of "Winter Thunder" as he roared out to the South!! Came back 10 later, did a high Fly Over then a right bank and a sharp turn into 1-9!! That was nice!!
And also with the end of the hockey "strike" or whatever you want to call it we'll get some of the bigger metal in FRG when the Isles go on road trips and teams come in!! Probably not as much with the shorter schedule
and our teams only playing Eastern Division teams but still something!!
Don't give up hope Gerard. If the rumors are true, FRG will have visits from:
Pittsburgh / Florida / Tampa Bay - Miami Air
Philadelphia - Delta
Washington / Montreal / Toronto / Ottawa / Winnipeg - Air Canada
Boston - USA Jet
Not to mention the Miami Air flights the Islanders take for road games...
Anyone here the rumor that the Blues might not use FRG to stage for the 2013 Air Show? There was a post on the LI-Republic Airport Historical Society Fascebook page today alluding to that possibility.
BTW, what's the status of RWY 14/32 while the installation of the EMAS system is still going on??
Hopefully the installation will be complete before the Air Show on Memorial Day weekend:wink:
Are the Thunderbirds going to fly out of Republic for this year's air show at Jones Beach? Also what is going to become of what was the 56th fighter group rest.? What will be built there anyone know?
Ken
Whose Huey was that that just (4:30) flew into FRG on the ILS 1-4? Was upstairs dozing off watching a John Wayne movie when I heard that unmistakable sound of an approaching UH1 from the West!! Jumped up and slowly made my way downstairs (just had hernia surgery last week so moving kinda slow) and caught them as they turned onto the ILS which is about a mile to the southwest of me!! Heard a partial ID of N8HA!! Damn that sounded so great that whoop whoop of the blades!!
Ceiling cant be more that a 100 feet but i just had a Sikorsky S76 fly over the Morton Village Shopping center in Plainview to the north, the 10 minutes later when I came out of Subway an S-76 (same??) was now on
the ILS 1-4!! Oh didnt see a damn thing but know the sound of the 76!! Probably Cablevision they are always flying IFR and in weather i dont even want to be out walking in!!
Big movie/TV film this afternoon on the ramp between Sheltair and the AAM!! The parking lot of AAM was filled with movie trucks!! They had a Russian Mi-8 helicopter in Russian CG colors and later an Army UH1 parked by the hangar door by the old tower. Looks like they might have been filming inside the hangar also. When I found out i took a run to see if the Mi-8 was still there but by 4 it was gone and the UH1 was being used it filming. Looked like the UH1 was prepping to leave around 5:30!
From my "sources" read that this was part of the production of the new ABC thriller "Zero Hour" which premieres tomorrow (2/14) night!! Also read that the UH1 that they used was apparently the same one I heard/saw a week earlier and had been sitting in the Sheltair hangar!!
The same source" wrote that production companys enjoy filming at Republic because the are allowed access to the tarmac to shoot aircraft flying!!
Two hockey charters at FRG today!! Miami Air was parked at Atlantic with its nose almost up to the fence!! Thought that was for the Flyers who were playing at the Coliseum this afternoon though I did know they usually used Delta!! Well at 3:25 Delta Airbus on final to Runway 3-2 taxing over to the rear of Atlantic!! Checked the Isles schedule and they were heading up to Ottawa for a 3 game road trip!! They need to get out of town after todays whipping!!
Very very cool surprise at Sheltair today!! 2 USMC CH-46C Sea Knights were sitting on their ramp when I stopped by around 2PM. Had some time and they looked to be transient so I decided to wait around!! Well didnt have to as in about ten minutes both crews (4 each) came out and after the warm up and wind up they taxied over to One Nine and departed out to the east low and fast!! They were from HMM-774 a Medium Lift Helicopter Squadron based at Norfolk!! It was a nice sunny winter day but pretty windy and when those tandem rotors cranked up it was even worse!! Had to retreat into my car until they taxied way!!
Came in last evening to pickup the Winnipeg Jets. I think this is the first special scheme ever to visit FRG.
