There were 2 US Army Blackhawks here as well on Thursday evening. Got photos, just haven't had time to edit them yet. Will try to get them online either Sunday night or Monday morning.

Thanks for the heads-up on this Chris! Quite a catch for FRG. We also saw Trump's helicopter arriving this morning while we were out getting the Hornet.

And Ryan, as Gerard said, those guys you saw down at Atlantic are almost always going to be hockey charters, either bringing a team in to play the Islanders, or taking the Isles on the road. The Isle have used Miami Air for several years now, so they are regulars at FRG.
Hey guys whats the origin of the helmet painting on the tail? Looks like the Michigan State Spartans emblem.
That Hornet is assigned to VFA-106, the "Gladiators" squadron. They are the East Coast Fleet Replacement Squadron for the Hornet, and have the helmet on their squadron insignia. The original Hornet prototype, which wore these colors, didn't have the helmet on the tail.
Right now I'm hearing the F-18 might takeoff around 4PM today possibly,
but I'm going to try an get over there earlier just incase because you never know!!!
Thanks John.Quote:

Just what happened today. No action with the F-18 so I watched a Miami Air 737 come into Atlantic. They positioned it right by the fence along 109. It landed a little after 12 and departed with the Islanders around 2:30 off 3-2 heading up to Montreal. Saw that the team came in on a bus as opposed to them all driving their own vehicles as I have seen in the past. This new team policy?
F-18 started up a little after 4PM and took off right around 4:30PM.
Moose went around to the Main Terminal side so I'm sure he got
some really great shots of it taking off on 32 from over there.
I'm looking forward to seeing his shots later on !! :borat:
How about some shots in the daylight? :D

There was quite a crowd around the airport to watch this guy depart. He had about 20 family members come down to see him off, and everyone got to climb on the jet for a picture before he fired up. We almost ran out of daylight by the time they were done!
Moose,
I figured you'd get some great shots over by the Main Terminal of the Hornet's takeoff !!
Thanks for posting them and it was nice hanging out with you over at FRG today !

Awesome shots. I drove past around 3 and saw you and a few others in the lot but by that time I had to drive to Merrick to pick
up my daughter. Thought about coming back after I dropped her off but didnt have the energy.
Gotta love FRG, ya never know who or what might drop in.
Any "official" reason why the jet was here?
Sorry I could not see the Departure but here are just a few...And if we took off from Farmingdale does not count?

Thanks again for the heads up on the Anniversary F/A-18. What a great visitor to have at Farmingdale. Made it out there late Sunday morning for a few pictures.
Met two very nice gentlemen unfortunately I didn't get there names. If they are on here I was the guy with the portable scaffold/platform.
Really wish I could have made it for the departure but my son's hockey ran late and we missed it.
Great departure shots "Moose!"
One from Sunday afternoon.

Nice shots, Fred (Derf!) It's good that you were able to get some shots in the rain Saturday night.
And Fred K - that was Isaac and me that you met shooting the Hornet - I'm the guy with the beard, Isaac is the guy without the beard :D It was great meeting you, and thanks for the use of the stepladder!
ETA - Matt, looks like I was typing my reply when you asked the question. Spooky, isn't it?

Thats very interesting. All the times I've been to DC and never saw these guys, only the regular VIP white-top ships.Quote:

Nice shots, John. I must have driven right past you Sunday - I was at SheltAir when he fired up, then ran down around New Highway to the terminal lot for the departure.
I was kind of surprised I was the only one at the end of New Highway. When he was in position 2 minivans stopped by with kids to watch, but I was the only one at that vantage point with a camera.Quote:

12:33AM "737" on final to 1-4. Watched as the well lit jet passed west of my house. Figured it was the Islanders returning from DC after a nice OT victory against the Caps. Headed back inside then heard another "737 in the area" ask the "Biscayne that just landed let us know when you have finished back taxing so we can land". At 12:41 the second 737 came in on 1-4. So one 737 was the Isles returning from DC and the other was the Sabres flying in from Buffalo after their OT win against the Maple Leafs.
Nice. And I was by FRG early this aft. and saw the Isles had all their own vehicles as opposed to the team bus I saw last Sunday. Wonder if they gave any Sabres a lift?
1:35AM "Stingray 651" the Emb 120 A/C shuttle landed 1-4.
Biscayne 570 departed Runway 1-4 around 2:10PM on a pretty blustery day with pilots reporting wind shear around
1900 feet. I guess another plane will be coming in later to pick up the Sabres.
Air Canada jet being used by Edmonton Oilers sitting in the back of Atlantic ramp. Go around to the front of Hangar 5 and you can get a good look at the nose. Used by U2 during their "360" Tour it still has the U2 livery and writing underneath the cockpit "Running Down The Road Like Loose Electricity" a lyric from their song "Breathe".
Sounds like AC is running the U2 through the whole rotation of their hockey charters. The Devils were using it for awhile, also.Quote:

That plane was there to bring the Edmonton Oilers in to destroy the Islanders.
Keep dreaming Phil.. dont forget we SOMEHOW shut out the sabers the other night!!.. and we are on winning streak.. and slowly catching up
Stopped by Sheltair to eat lunch today and saw a Coast Guard Jayhawk from Cape Cod on the ramp. Was there long enough to see her fire up and lift off to the East.
Sorry Moose, there is no fence in this picture. Until you get the rare shot with the fence in it, we cannot label you a Senga clone. ;)Quote:

I wont say where she is hangered at the airport but I will say she is in company of two other 550's a 4 and a 3 on the property in which she is hangered. The same company that owns her also has a pair of Falcon's. A 50EX and a 900EX. This 550 has it's own personal round the clock guard for it. She will not be flying very often but defineately keep a look out for her. She is going to be a very rare catch for a while.
I saw it there yesterday, so I have a good inkling of where its located. :wink:Quote:
