Isaac, NICE sunset shot with the Chinook !!
Thanks Chris!
I was out to catch the DC9 today. Didn't know that you guys were there, I was the one in the red jeep! Here's my shot.

Nice shot!! I was the guy standing next to you and your friend in the parking lot and remarked about the Cirrus SR22 with the Islander emblem being "Their team plane"!!:tongue:
BTW you guys notice the blue sport plane that was told to go around and basically did a hard right 360 over the cemetary and came right in? Pretty cool. I believe it was David Windmiller.
It was nice to put faces to names yesterday. I was able to grab a shot of David and his Edge, it looks like he painted it! By the way, do you know what other teams normally charter or fly their own plane?

The other Hockey teams that operate their own plane are the New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings,
San Jose Sharks, Phoenix Coyotes and Dallas Stars.
Unfortunately, the Blue Jackets DC-9 will be the last privately owned NHL Team plane at FRG this year,
and they should be taking off from FRG after their game today sometime between 5 - 6PM.
Thanks. Hell yeah he did! I might stop by FRG tomorrow to get some more shots of the Chinook in better light.
I left around 3:00. They both started up, the chinook hovered for 10 minutes and the Lakota flew around then they both landed and they opened up the right engine cowling on the chinook. I left after that, the light was going bad so I left. I'll post the shot tomorrow.
Drove by at 2:00pm. Both of the helicopters had departed
I saw yesterday a helicopter flying over Carl Place/Mineola. When I went outside, it was was too late to run to my car to grab my camera for pics. It was afternoon, around 2pm. It could have been Lakota from pics I saw on the net.
Here's the shot from yesterday. They were backlit but I am pretty happy with the results!

Flickr changed again and I don't know how to grab the BB Code. Any thoughts?
Incident today at FRG. Soon after departing FRG the pilot of a Cessna 182 contacts the Tower that his landing gear is locked and will not retract. Asked if he wants to declare an emergency he declines and comes around to land on Runway 1. He comes in VERY slowly like he was floating and as soon as he touched down the gear collapsed!! There was a puff of smoke and the pilot quickly stopped the plane. Seconds later the pilot, by himself, comes out and waves his arms in the direction of the Main Terminal/Tower indicating he is alright!! As Rescue 1 and 3 race over the Tower is quickly moving away all the planes that were on final approach behind him sending them over to Runway 3-2!! Then they had to move the multiple planes that were waiting to depart R1 over to R32. Great job by the controllers but even a better job by the pilot to bring his aircraft down without any noticeable damage that I could see through my binocs!!
Any idea what time this happened?
Saw coming attractions of next weeks "The Blacklist" and looks like they did more filming at FRG by the old tower area!! Possibly using a C-47?
Yes, they were at SheltAir/AAM a week or so ago filming some scenes, including the museum's C-47 that will air over the next two episodes.
Aw Moose, you gotta post this stuff! :P
Sorry, I didn't hear about the filming until after it wrapped.
LOVE that show, would have loved to watch them do some filming :)
Yeah, the Old Tower and the Sheltair tarmac got alot of exposure on the episode last night as well as the AAM's C-47:cool:
I actually thought I was watching "Resurrection" when I saw them scramble a F-14 to shoot down the C-47 over NYC. LOL
And it was also funny when they "show" a close-up of the F-14 cockpit and it's actually an F-18 then !! LMAO
Oh well, got to love seeing the Tomcat though
There's a war bird flying around Republic and neighboring towns today. At first I thought it was a Corsair but realized it wasn't. Any idea what kind it is? Reminds me of '04-'08ish when seeing war birds flying around was a regular sight. Miss that.
It just took off about five minutes ago off of 14. It looked like a Corsaire from it's wing profile, unfortunately, I do not know exactly what it was. The sound of the engine made me look out the window as it is distinctly different than the normal traffic here.
FYI- just heard from Rkfast and he said there's an A-10 fuselage on a trailer on the tarmac between Sheltair and the AAM right now.
I guess the AAM is finally getting an A-10 ?
Sounds like a reasonable assumption, Chris...
Yeah, I stopped over there quick today also and it's coming together pretty fast.
It's just too bad they couldn't have flown it into FRG, just like they did when they retired the Prowler a couple of years ago,
because it must be costing a small fortune to haul it all the way from Boneyard in AZ to FRG by trailer and reassemble it !!
Anyway, it's nice to see the A-10 back "home" on LI and hope the AAM will eventually paint sharks teeth on her nose also
Found the below pic on the warthog news facebook page.

On Friday the house passed a bill to block the Air Force from retiring the A-10.
