African International Airways DC-8-62 MCO
Went for my second shot of this unique airline. First shot it at SWF in Dec 2004. It took off 40 mins late so the lighting was really sucky. Things must not be going to bad of I have to decide weather I will bother going out for an airline like this!
I missed out on a rolling departure thx to the controller giving him the usualy instruction to departed runway 18L instead of the logical 18R for cargo ops.

Re: African International Airways DC-8-62 MCO
Thank you for the compliments my fellow photogs.
BILL.....It was parked in a un-shootable place :) I already have shots of this aircraft as well.

This is indeed a rare find; and the lighting was excellent. Does it regularly fly to the US? Where was it heading to?
Re: African International Airways DC-8-62 MCO
Negatory JZ1, It seems to only show up at the US in late December early January.
In this flight it was SVMI-MCO-EBOS. Someone had said that they used to fly to the US years ago.

Agreed. It's one thing to have a DC-8, but having 4 cigars on there double the excitement.
Re: African International Airways DC-8-62 MCO
"4 cigars" -- interesting way of putting it :P . Is there a term for the DC-8 with CFM engines?
Re: African International Airways DC-8-62 MCO
I made up cigars.
I'm going to call the CFMs walnuts. Run with it if you'd like. :D
Re: African International Airways DC-8-62 MCO
That thing must have been noisy...?
Re: African International Airways DC-8-62 MCO
It was relatively quiet, I was pretty much next to it when it started up its engines and taxied out. They dont wine and are not as loud as the "Coke-Bottle" engines that I love the most. They are all gone now if not then flying inthe most remote places.
I guess the JT3D"Cigar" as they have been called are the next bext thing.
I never like thw walnut (CFM-56) engines. They look so silly on DC-8s and KC-135Es

I agree about the walnuts. It's like an old man dressing like he's 20. Get a grip, grandpa.
