SAS Exercises Boeing 737 Options

SEATTLE - Boeing Co. on Friday said SAS Scandinavian Airlines has exercised options for two 737-800 airliners.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The airline, whose fleet includes 88 737s, plans to use the new aircraft on flights within Europe. SAS Norway earlier this year took possession of two new 737-700 aircraft.

As of Sept. 30, Boeing said it had orders for 1,800 next-generation 737s, which combined are worth more than $125 billion at list prices. However, customers typically negotiate steep discounts.

The short to medium-range 737 is Boeing's best-selling airplane. Next-generation models, beginning with the 737-600 series, have features that are designed to cut fuel costs, extend the plane's range and hauling capacity, and reduce maintenance costs.
