But it's really quiet in here this year.

No updates? Schedules? Arrivals?

Or is there another place people are discussing this show?

2 weeks tomorrow!! Woo Hoo!!
BTW now that Stu Leonards is open, parking for watching/spotting in that lot right by the store has become limited!! I did see that even when its pretty busy there was enough space/spots on the other side of the road closer to the fence!! But with that added traffic we need to be more careful and alert as we wander around and even more so if you have young children with you!!

FYI - looks like the Snowbirds and Breitling Jet Teams will be based over by the AAM and Sheltair for the show.
and I see the AAM is expecting active service A-10s to be visiting over Memorial Day Weekend also for their
Celebration of 75 Years of Republic Aviation "Thunder" too

fk6065
2016-05-16, 10:56 PM
No way the F-35 is going to FRG. Based on the care and security they had for the F-35 at MCAS Cherry Point Show they are very protective of the aircraft. When it looked like thunder & lightning they quickly hustled the two F-35's off the runway and into shelter.

Interesting to was that the had the F-22 Demo team's aircraft taped off and under armed security forces during the show.

The A-10's are being brought in by the AAM not the air show so they won't be flying in the show. Based on past visits they will be on display.

Wonder why the F-16's don't go out of Farmingdale. Is it due to runway length? The T-birds have used it in the past.

It is due to the runway length, they prefer a longer runway. T-Birds have used JFK & Islip. I think they used FRG twice, once with the arresting gear and once without.

The Blue Angels are performing in Md at the USNA on Wednesday 5-25 in the afternoon.

If if they follow their usual travel policy they will arrive at KFRG Thursday morning. They will have a briefing and then go up and run through circles and landmarks at the beach Thursday afternoon.

Friday morning they have a flyover at the USNA graduation at 10:04AM. Figure they will depart KFRG about 9:00am

After they return they will go up for their full practice at the beach Friday afternoon.

My source says around 5PM. Just spoke to a pilot waiting for his flight at Republic. Says he heard the the BA's were arring at noon, but also said no one really knows when (except for the tower which might know 90 minutes out), as they're kind of on their own schedule.

Another photographer standing with me said he saw a sign on 110 that said "7' was arriving at 5:00pm local time and the rest arriving in the morning.

So, IOW, still don't know.

The Noon arrival doesn't make sense if they're doing the Commissioning in Anapolis in the early afternoon today.

Anyone have any more concrete info?

Also, the pilot said they'd be using 32 today.

Did you think the beach was better than the boardwalk? Or vice versa?

Did you think the beach was better than the boardwalk? Or vice versa?

The boardwalk is pretty far away and you would need at least 500-600mm to even get lose to getting close up to the aircraft. Plus you have to contend with everybody walking by you and bumping you.

Down by the water is great, except for the inconsiderate people who run around a splash sand & water on your camera & lens. Yes I know it's a beach.

Today I was at the shore line with a 200-500 and for a lot of the shots I needed to move back 1/3rd of the way up the beach from the water as 200 was to much that close. It was my first time using this lens at this show.

I walked back down to get the high speed pass and Fat Alberts low pass.

So you just kind of have to play it by ear as some performers are closer to the beach and others are further out.

Worst is the lighting as you are shooting into the sun all day. In order to make it work you need to move further east in the morning and shoot west to avoid the backlighting. Then in the afternoon move west of show center and shoot east for better lighting.

Its a tough show to photograph if you just stay in one place.

Agree with what fk6065 said. Go to the beach at the water line. If you go tomorrow you'll be good, if you go sat/sun you'll have to contend with people's beach umbrellas. Boardwalk is always packed for the shows including the practice.

Agree with what fk6065 said. Go to the beach at the water line. If you go tomorrow you'll be good, if you go sat/sun you'll have to contend with people's beach umbrellas. Boardwalk is always packed for the shows including the practice.
Last year on Sunday I went to the water line and got great shots. Bring a lens cloth for the salt water overspray from the ocean.
edit
anybody notice you can't type salt water in one word watch what happens sal****er is this a forum thing. Lol

I was up with my student at FRG today. We took off just after noon and heard the Mustang, F-35 and F-16 making a low approach down 19. On the break the Mustang landed, the F-16 went to ISP and the F-35 requested a freq to go to ACY through JFK Class B in order to stay clear of the TFR. On the way back in just after 1pm we shared the FRG traffic pattern with the Snowbirds! We landed 19 and cleared at the intersection while they flew right overhead. So cool.

That LOW approach the F-35A did and the high speed pass by the F-16 on RWY 19 was very cool to see at FRG today!!

I just found this crappy smartphone video of it on Youtube to give you an idea what it looked like.
Hopefully someone else got a much better video it today.

It was a beautiful day at the beach though I know some of you photog guys will complain about lightning and stuff :rolleyes::smile: Pretty crowded, the most Ive seen at a practice show but also it was such a lovely day a lot of it was people just out to the beach and no clue they'd run into an air show!! And just so great to hang at show central either on the beach or boardwalk and be able to easily get around!! Snowbirds came in from over the Water Tower and then disappeared out over the water for about 10 minutes but when they came in they did a nice show!! Maybe just getting their bearings since they havent flown here in a few years!! But what happened to the Breitling Team? I guess they didn't want to practice? As usual the Angels did a magnificent show!! With the clear sky they looked like they were flying right into the sun!! And of course one of the solo guys, as usual, did a low and fast run over the crowd literally having everyone jumping out of their skins, and loving it!! And one thing I saw while the Angels were performing and were back over on the Bay side and I was watching with my binocs I thought I saw a small fixed wing that possibly broke the TFR? He was moving to the East but I thought WTF is he doing there. Anyone hear or see anything?
Well anyone who's going Sat/Sun be prepared for a great show and dont forget the sunscreen!! It was pretty sunny out there today!

I heard it on my scanner, the comm cart called and aircraft in the airspace behind the crowd (think they said a mile out) they do called for the diamond to continue the vertical pitch menuevor and Doc and another guy were looking for him. The plane cleared out after a few minutes, sure that guy will get an earfull. Side note there was a Cessna that wasn't responding yesterday to Republic Tower on final and the tower finally got hold of him on the ground and let his displease be known, pilot said his radio was malfunctioning.

NJSP twitter states survivor may not be pilot which I hope is untru. They also are stating that the plane is to be scrapped by the Army Core of Engineers which I hope is also untrue and seems too soon to be contemplating as I would think the FAA would want a look at it.

The original NJSPD Twitter feed was wrong!! They said they had the pilot but it was only someone who jumped in water to help. But that didn't stop the Media from running with the story which they have since backtracked on. I'm sadly hearing it's not a rescue mission anymore but a recovery!!
