Greetings, I did not expect I would be heading down to PHL today for a French AF Casa 235. I must say I am glad my trip did not take me past PHL and I got a general picture of where it was going. When I got to the airport the pilots were literally making their way to the aircraft and then started prepping for departure. This French Air Force CN-235 is definitely a nice catch for me and is nicely weathered too as I like them to be. I did not stay for the AAL A330s that I need. I just couldn't hang about PHL for 1 minute longer as my head was about to explode with boredem. Its been several years since my last visit and I do believe it was for the Tanzania Government Gulfstream.

Outstanding catch as usual Senga, but my god that thing is dirtier than most Air France jets!

Yea its been ages since I had been to PHL. While I was there they were arriving on runway 35, and 9R and Departing 9L and runway 8. I'd sure liek to get back down there son to get the AAL A330s and some more Dash 8s. It just hard waiting all day for those A330s.

Is runway 8 unusual for departures?

Is runway 8 unusual for departures?

The airport facing east at all is relatively rare. Runway 8 can only be used for departures, so in the east flow, they use on 35/off 8 as the secondary runway assignment. In the west flow, it's more common to see mixed mode on 35 with only a handful of arrivals on 26, since go-arounds on 26 really mung things up.

Thanks for the info Matthew. Yea I knew they didn't land on runway 8 especially since it would take them so close to the terminal area it would privite great shots though :) Several years back I was at PHL to get the Nasa Super Guppy. I was expecting it to land on runway 9R like everything else but it went to runway 17. Because of this I missed the arrival and had to accept a ground shot.

The CN-235 is back! It arrived at around 3:00 PM. I missed the arrival due to the rain  However, I will be at the airport for 9 AM!
