Is anyone else planning on heading to Westover this Saturday? The forecast isn't exactly pretty as of now, but that's the only day I can make it up due to work. I'm excited to knock some rust off the airshow shooting skills and to start the show season off with a great lineup of performers!

FYI- As per the update on show's FB page about security changes>>>
Due to the base's new heightened security level expect longer lines to enter the base and large backpacks and camera bags are not allowed.

I just called Public Affairs for a confirmation on what a "large camera bag" is. They were very noncommittal as to a size, and all I could get out of them was to "use your best judgement" and "just bring a bag big enough for your camera".

Needless to say this isn't the confidence I would like out of a representative when a few grand in lenses would have to be left in the car. Hopefully they get their requirements squared away and in writing so we can best prepare. The Flipside 500 I have on the way will be just big enough for the kit I'm planning on taking, but it's far bigger than a small holster case for a kit lens and entry level SLR that I'm thinking is on the top end of their size scale.

Just an update from today's show. If your bag has two straps, don't bring it... if it's bigger than the camera, don't bring it... etc (Unless you've got medication or something in there, then you should be ok. Photos are downloading now, plenty to come at some point.

Here's the first batch of images from the earlier part of the show on Saturday.

Nothing too special here, but please excuse me as it was the airshow debut of my Sigma 150-600 Sport which I hit the jackpot finding on Wednesday of last week at a local store. I will say it had a damn near perfect FL range for an airshow on the D7100 and didn't seem as heavy as I though it would... though it did honestly (and sadly) make my 70-200 feel like a kit lens when I put it on for the C-5 flybys. It's a heck of a sharp lens from what I've seen so far. Certainly not on the stage of a 400 f2.8 prime, but it also costs less than my car, so I'll take the (seemingly small) IQ hit.

The Snowbirds were up next. Despite all the airshows I've attended over the years, I've never seen the Snowbirds get off the ground, so I was happy when the ceilings jumped up a few hundred feet allowing them to take to the skies.

Thanks William! Let Sigma know I sent you so I can get a commission haha. The later shots with the Raptor and the Blues came out better, so there's plenty of improvement to be had even within this set!
