Miss them too. It would be interesting to see how much of the old branding and livery they use if they return.

If you look at their web site - http://easternairlines.aero/ - it's full of old Eastern stuff, and their drawings of new aircraft are in the hockey stick colors. I was reading somewhere that they paid big bucks for all of the Intellectual Property of the former Eastern Airlines, and seem to have adopted that history as their own.

if they are going full Eastern then L1011's and B727, and of course a retro jet in the Golden Falcon livery

They have re-formed before. If they start flying the 757 again, with the '757' tails, then I will break out the bubbly

Eastern can form an alliance with PeopleExpress, Baltia, California Pacific, and all the other startups and will never be.

Maybe they can start with this one! Pure oldschool :) Its Probably the last Origional EAL aircraft still in the livery. Would have been nice of they brought it back in service.

they claim they are going with A319's
I was reading about Eastern on wikipedia and noticed it seems they had the same aircraft crash twice within 2 years.

On 19 July 1951, Eastern Air Lines Flight 601, Lockheed L-749A Constellation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_Constellation) N119A suffered severe buffeting after an access door opened in flight. A flapless wheels-up landing was made at Curles Neck Farm (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curles_Neck_Farm), Virginia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virginia). The aircraft was later repaired and returned to service.[24] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Air_Lines#cite_note-ASN190751-24)
On 19 October 1953, an Eastern Air Lines flight from Idlewild International Airport (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idlewild_International_Airport) to San Juan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Juan,_Puerto_Rico), Puerto Rico (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puerto_Rico), operated by Lockheed L-749A Constellation N119A crashed on take-off. Two passengers were killed.[25] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Air_Lines#cite_note-ASN191053-25)

There is still one ex-Eastern aircraft still floating around in commercial service:

http://www.planespotters.net/Production_List/Boeing/757/22210,N618AU-US-Airways.php

USAirways had several ex-EAL 757s, but they have all left the fleet and seems they have been scrapped except for this one.

Several of the EAL Airbus 300's still exists in storage, but it appears none are flying.

Wow only 1 left?
But now that I think about it yea their fleet was comprized mainly of aircraft that are not pretty much Stored or Broken up. I do wonder how many of the 727s especially the private ones might be ex eastern.

Several of the ex-Eastern A300s and 757s are still in service, primarily as freighters. 2 or 3 of the A300s are still around, while there are still half a dozen 757s. One of the 757s is Honeywell's engine testbed. Even 3 of the DC-9s are still reported to be in service in Venezuela.

Sorry, Senga, but the pair of 727s at Hagerstown were broken up a few years ago.

I had the feeling they had been (Pan Am and the Eastern). I was there in 2010 again and for a side on shot of the EAL 727 and it was missing many pieces at that point. Oh well so I guess no EAL727 :) Not that they would have used it anyway hehehe.

i believe I flew a former Eastern 727 at Champion,no matter, when I was a kid I owned and loved an all metal white top Whisperjet, and must of watched and dreamed on them a million times thundering out of LGA, and JFK, along with Champion, and NE's Yellowbirds,my favorite 3 holer livery.

Looks like they're now opting for 737s.

That 73- really does look awesome! My guess is, this would be their retro jet livery, vs. the entire fleet's livery. As much as we are nostalgic for the old Eastern and would love to see the airline come back exactly as we remember it, Madison Ave will likely impact the new brand.

It's probable that an "evolved" Eastern look will emerge. Something that pays homage to the old Eastern branding with a contemporary spin. Could have some original elements, like the logo icon or the "hockey stick". Just don't count on it being exactly as you remember it. And you really can't argue with these kind of marketing decisions. The new Eastern will need to be a competitive player in the JetBlue, Virgin America world that has emerged since the airline folded.

Very insightful take on the marketing that will probably occur, Don

Thanks Will. I've picked up a thing or two about these sort of things in client meetings.
