I saw this last night, sad news. I guess shoot their aircraft while you can, assuming they are still flying

there's 4 aircraft left.. But the news is really not too surprising to me though, they were falling apart for awhile

Question is, who will take over that spot at JFK ;) I vote for Panalpina

either Panalpina or maybe Kalitta could end up moving there

But seriously, we can't confirm this is fully accurate.

Three real news sources from the town Evergreen is based in is enough for me. R.I.P. Evergreen.

That actually makes me think more that they are susceptible to local rumor. Evergreen isn't talking, I spoke to them.

Wow I heard about this. This is one of the first airlines I saw when I started taking pics all those years ago. I was so happy they kept that very classic livery. If they do cease operations it will be a a disappoint to lose such a beautiful logo and theme.

The company can say one thing in public, but they filed a WARN notice with the State of Oregon (#1985) on November 7 saying they'd be laying off 131 people as of that day. They filed it under the Mass Layoff category instead of the Plant Closing category, but either way it doesn't look good.

NYCAviation:

Will They Stay or Will They Go? The Saga of Evergreen International Airlines (http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/nycaviation/~3/bjbb15eYJP8/)

Multiple published reports have indicated that Evergreen International Airlines will be shutting down its operations at the end of the month. At least publicly however, Evergreen states that the rumors of its demise have been greatly exaggerated.http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/nycaviation/~4/bjbb15eYJP8

The contradicting statements surely make no sense, so I wonder exactly what's going on.

If they are really shutting down, it's not surprising, and quite frankly, something I saw coming since they grounded their -200s almost a year ago. And I'm glad I got to see one of their -200s in Phoenix last year, and I'll keep checking if they got anything coming to LCK or CVG in the next few weeks (hopefully they send something to CVG next weekend).

A friend found one of their pages where they are advertising 3 -200Fs for sale, but no mention of their -400s (which given their financial woes, my guess is they're leased), their CASA C-212s (assuming that they still have them), or the Supertanker.

Senga, I don't think so... that one has the older engines... the one Jason posted has newer engines... from the little that I know about these things ;)

This, I believe law is 60 days plus a company isn't going to tell anyone sensitive info until it's official.

...I believe law is 60 days...

I noticed this while I was writing the article and looked into what it means in practice. While 60 days notice is required, giving employees pay and benefits for an amount of time equal to that 60 days is the important part. Companies can either pay the employees for the balance of the time or the employees can sue for the money plus attorney fees.

Thanks Manny,

If EIA does go under it will be interesting to see if the brake up that plane or fly it out.
Maybe we will get a treat to see it broken up like Medex's N400ME. It took them less than 2 hours to break up the DC-9 and put it in the dumpsters.

But seriously, we can't confirm this is fully accurate.

I had a 30 hour layover in PDX so I rented a car and went to McMinnville to see the museum. I took the tour of the Spruce Goose and asked the guide about: a) the shutdown and b) how it would affect the museum. He replied that the museum should be OK since it's a 501(c)3 organization and is its own separate organization. About Evergreen Air Cargo, he said he'd seen some people who had supposedly been "laid off" and they were still working. He asked one of them about it and they guy said "don't believe everything you read..."

It sounds like the museum will be just fine. Hopefully there will be a reprieve for the cargo operation as well. Time will tell.
