As most of you know I don't have a Facebook account and I absolutely refuse to get one, but here's a new motivation to be wary of the **** stirring giant. Their new TOU takes a page out of instagram's book by changing the language to allow them to use your photographic work commercially in any way they see fit, without any notice to the photographer let alone credit or compensation. This exploits your photos, your site(s) as facebook will now track what other pages you visit be it from pc, or mobile phone, and the brand some of you have worked so hard to create.

Facebook's proposed new TOU:

And the American Society of Media Photographers alert of the above:

Be aware and be warned folks.

Kenny...some of us have nothing to be worried about.

I usually only put up cell pics anyway, and not many of them.

It was just a word to the wise bro. I know there are some folks who put their entire life on that worthless hole of a site.

I know there are some folks who put their entire life on that worthless hole of a site.

Why so negative?? Yes it has its moments and some people are a little too much but the positives outweigh the negatives for me. It has allowed me to get in touch and stay in touch with friends and old school chums I havent seen in ages. Same goes with family who maybe I might see once a year (if that) because of distance or time!! Now we can stay in touch on a regular basis!! For me it has brought everyone a little bit closer and I like that!!

You've not met my family. From my view FB is nothing but trouble and my mindset is if I want anyone to know what's going on in my life, you'll have my phone number and/or email address. My life is not an open book but I digress, the original post was again just a warning to those who choose to put up more than just pics taken on a cell phone as I know that the networking part of the site can be used to further their brands. The more you know.

Kenny I have to agree. I go back and forth about whether to get on there or not, some days I say what you said and others I think 'you know, it would be nice to have my work be seen by more people' but shots get stolen all the time and people go through hell to get them taken down. One guy I do work for is REALLY trying to convince me its the way to go with promoting myself, but I'm always hearing these stories and thinking its not worth it. Being viewed as not a customer but a commodity to be marketed to their real customers is another thorn I can't get past.
