Looks like a Piedmonster had a rough landing http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/10065860/Plane-makes-emergency-belly-landing-at-Newark-airport.html

It was N934HA! I had shots of her somewhere. Glad everyone made it off the plane safely

I love this statement in the Telegraph article from the link above:

"Mr Powers dumped the Dash 8-100 plane's remaining fuel while circling the airport, two hours after departing Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on a US Airways Express flight operated by Piedmont Airlines."

I'm still wondering where the dump chutes are installed on the Dash 8. Are they those sooty openings on the back of the engines?

We were on the way up to EWR from PBI and all set up for the visual to 29 when they changed us to the ILS 22L...so we apparently landed fairly soon after they moved the airplane off the runway.

I don't think the Dash 8 can dump fuel.

I know for a fact that the Dash 8 can't dump fuel... The sooty things I was referring to are the exhaust; dump it out the tailpipe as smoke and noise...

You'd think the news media could do a little better job of researching what they're talking about. On the other hand, I read a book written by Jimmy Doolittle back in the late 40's or early 50's where he complained about the news media as far back as the twenties! The more things change, the more they stay the same.

How much fuel does a Dash-8 even hold???

The media never accurately reports events - especially aviation related ones. It's all about getting a story out there; 99% of the public doesn't really care (or will never notice) if the details are accurate or not.

Dash 8 has no fuel... it has electrically driven motors

And it looks like United's Ecoskies was diverted to PHL due to what happened(too dark for pictures)- you can see the holding pattern they were in for a bit

Glad everyone is ok! Great piloting with the Dash
