I headed out to DTW after 2 straight days of exams (which for the record could have gone much better) for a much needed does of aviation/destress. This represents a sample of about three and a half hours worth of arrivals on 4R. Nothing too fancy, but there were a few unexpected visitors the highlight of which was a lovely 3-Holer that followed the LH A330.

Gotta love the old Diesel 9's, I spotted her on the horizon much farther away than any of the other jets smoking away.

Nice Mark! You guys still see RJ up there?

Thanks Kenny!

We do still get RJ (I think almost every day?) though I've yet to capture them while spotting. Shooting through a 757 window cleaned with sandpaper is another, but that always seems to be the case. As I recall they usually arrive pretty late anyways, so without the longest day of the year, 2.8 glass, or a delay of some sort it's a tough bird to catch around these parts.

I'm also pretty sure they're codesharing with AAL, and the big blue birds are getting more and more rare.

Great shots! I used to live near DTW--nice airport. Just fyi, RJ usually arrives around 11 am from Montreal.

Thanks for the heads up on the arrival time Adam and the kind words. With this (and seemingly every) semester's schedule there's no chance I'll be getting the RJ shot, though there's plenty of other (C)RJs around...

DTW has a lot more variety since the red tails morphed into Delta,I live under one of the arrivals for metro and the mix of 747-400s,767,777,A330,340 ,MD87-88-90,along with the occasional DC9 is nice to see,(along with a million rj's and A320/19's), in my freightdog days I flew DC3s,and CV340s in there, in my Champion days I was based there with le grande 727,and in 2011 I even flew our museum C47 out of there for a season, it has always been a big friendly airport to me.

Thanks a lot guys! Glad you like them!

There's definitely more variety than the good ole NWA days, but I still miss the red tails and the bowling shoe. You can say the "million RJs" thing again, I think about 60% of the arrivals while I was there were RJs of some flavor, but there weren't THAT many A32X series jets coming in as I expected. That may be a factor of spending the whole afternoon/evening under the 4R approach path.
