Aero-Spacelines 377SGT Super Guppy makes an extremely rare (maybe first time visit) to Hanscom Field.

The Super Guppy at Pima was my one of my fav photos! Love that thing!

That thing probably handles like a pig, but that was a crappy landing. Nose wheel first is a good way to end up with no nose wheel. Nose wheel touches down at :19 and left main smokes at :23.

stratocruisers of all models ,land nosewheel first ,it is an anomaly of the design,the freightdog 377s,the USAF C97s, all used to land the same way,level or nosewheel first,that nosewheel is extremely stout.

According to the other thread (http://nycaviation.com/forum/threads/45544-NASA-Super-Guppy-at-Hanscom-Field-Bedford-Mass-3-26-13), they were delivering Orion heatshield to be coated at Textron.

Landing nosewheel first is called a "wheelbarrow landing" and I believe there are a couple types of aircraft where it is normal.

a couple of the Russian designs land nose-first. Go figure :confused:

That is epic! Thanks for sharing. My Grandfather used to work at Grumman Bethpage and always
spoke of seeing the Guppy going in and out of the field.

Does anyone know how many Guppies were built?

I believe there was a total of 5 Super Guppies built, and right now I know only one remains in service with NASA.
