Wow. That is seriously screwed up. How could they possibly close Mercer's tower?

Here in Philly a couple years back, the local version of 'sequestration' had led to the closure of several firehouses. Not too long afterwards, the blame games began with the first fatality in one of the affected zones. The expected response was given on the news: 'At this time, there is no indication that response times have been adversely affected due to firehouse closures'. They might as well have actually told people "Nothing to see here, move along".

And that was the last we heard of that.
