Sweet. Been running a ton lately, I just might do this

How can they do this at a major airport? Do they just not let anyone take off or land for an hour?

I understand how they do it at JFK, since they have so much room to spare. But LGA? This should be interesting!

Hey, I have ZERO problems running while jets take off all around me. That's actually a version of Heaven to me!

LGA can run ops on one runway easily but then you need to dodge the jets on the intersection

It is likely a day that they have pier construction planned, so a runway will be closed regardless. They will probably have us turn around short of the intersection and head back to finish off the 3-mile run.

I'm in. I'll be running in boots.

Phil,

Are you going to have a snake in your boots?

I'm in as well, but I wont be running. More like wandering a few steps before taking a picture, and repeating that process.

Don't let PAPD see you taking pictures on the ramp...

Actually Jason you may want to forgo the camera. walking three miles with a camera around your neck may not be so good. I've seen people at the JFK run/walk try and not make it.

But isn't that the entire purpose of LGA kids day

It depends on their mood. A few years back, when we got to tour the Orbis flying eye hospital DC-10, PAPD did not permit any photography on the ramp - we weren't allowed to take photos of the outside of the airplane, parked off away from everything else on a far corner of the ramp. We were even told not to shoot photos from inside the airplane out the windows. Of course, that didn't stop any of the PA folks who were out with their cameras...

Hmmm. I hope family/friends will be able to take some photos of this thing while the run is happening. To prohibit that would just be...well, ridiculous

I thought that I was the only spotter who posts that the airport security is "out to get us spotters". Looks like I'm not so paranoid after all. I was truly surprised that we were permitted to snap away at Trump's private jet at Kids' Day 2011 and security looked the other way. Sometimes they are nice. Looking forward to next Saturday.

Speedbird, others are mentioning instances that did happen, and also cracking jokes. There is not "The airlines, airports, police are out to get us!!!" but only sharing this one day that PAPD weren't thinking on their toes.

Hummm. I am looking into the logistics of making this work. Might need a ride to the airport from a local hotel however.

Argh.

I could not make the logistics work :frown:. You guys will have to run and shoot for me. Almost sounds like a biathlon!!!

Just got myself signed up for this, now all I have to do is not do anything stupid like walk barefoot on the boardwalk like I did on Saturday. Drove a 2-inch piece of wood into my plantar fascia. Fortunately seems to be healing now

I'm all signed up. Let's hope the weather cooperates, not like the time at the JFK runway run where we had a 30 MPH head wind while running down 13R! I think it was in 2006 or 2007.

I am sad to deliver the news that photography will be PROHIBITED at the LGA Runway Run. So please do not bring your cameras.

EDIT: THIS RULE HAS BEEN MODIFIED.

The first year I did the JFK run a few years back I ran it in heavy rain. It was great. :)

All, I have learned that photography is not actually banned. This is an event for charity, and it is just hoped that those who show up will register and actually run the course for the Wounded Warrior Project, not walk it or stop in the middle to snap a plane photo (which can be a safety hazard during a 5k as well), but I think you get the idea.

I'm eager to be there for the cause and race all of you.

Finished in exactly 24 mins. There were some really good runners there. I thought it went very smooth for the inaugural race.

During my track career in high school I had the opportunity to run in some awesome locations like Van Cortlandt Park, Eisenhower Park, Bethpage State Park, NY Tech, the NY Armory, and West Point. But this topped them all, especially when I found myself within spitting distance of Trump's 757, it looks great up close. It was very crazy to be running as commercial jets were taking off a few hundred feet away! What a thrill and I hope they do it again next year.

I've been sick all week and hoped I'd be better to go today, but I wasn't. Really upset I missed it. :(

Looks like you folks had fun though!

Also ran this event on Sunday. Used "MapMyRun" on my iPhone to track and record my run.
