March 1-4: Toronto, Canada, to visit Air Canada and local suppliers.
March 4: Boston, Mass., in support of Japan Airlines, which has announced that it will offer 787 service on the Tokyo-Boston route.
March 5-7: Newark, N.J., to visit United Airlines and its local stakeholders.

March 8-9: Mexico City, Mexico, to visit Aero Mexico.
March 10-12: Phoenix, Ariz., to visit Honeywell, other suppliers and Boeing employees.
March 13: San Diego, Calif., to visit Goodrich and other suppliers.
March 14-15: Long Beach, Calif., to visit leasing companies, Boeing employees and suppliers.
March 15-17: Salt Lake City, Utah, to visit Boeing employees and suppliers.

I'll be in TO, hopefully the Boston guys can get some shots, I guess EWR is a no go though...

KEWR PANYNJPD better prepare for an onslaught of Spotters  Is it:

--Fly in on the 5th
--Sit on the ground until the 7th
--Depart on the 7th

? Or will it fly in and out giving rides to VIPs and NYCA members throughout the week?

I think NYCA members get to fly the thing!

Hey guys,
Previous tour stops have generally included tours of the aircraft that are limited to the target audience that caused them to bother to stop there in the first place. Though I have not confirmed the plans with Boeing, I imagine the 787 will be open to touring for United folks at EWR. They have done VIP flights at a few stops, IIRC…I imagine there would probably be one at EWR…though again I don’t know for sure.
In general the aircraft has not been open to the public.
If/when I receive more details I’ll be happy to share as I am able to.

Judging by the last time a big group spotted together there it will be fun. Is Phil Mocek available?

Senga will be lurking for sure. This type is probably the only noteworthy frame I got before he did. It was a personal mission!

I dunno, wouldn't be surprised if one of the Sengaclones was hiding in a light fixture in the Everett factory and got a shot of it six years ago.

22 still active I would imagine they would give him that approach. Yea 11 would be bad.

I know most runway 22 approaches use SAX (Sparta VOR), then a right turn over the Meadowlands for a straight in. This morning the winds were from the west which rule out a 11 approach. If anything it would be a 29 approach but all the big boys are using 22L so far today.

Just my observation.

Where were you? I was in the Port Authority maintenance parking lot and got the same shot, will post later.

Did you hear the UA pilot on 22R? He was given clearance for take off but when he heard that the 787 was landing he requested to sit in position for 30 seconds to watch it land.

Nice shots by everyone! Although I have to say, shooting at EWR when the aircraft are landing from the north in the morning, is my least favorite challenge locally.

But anyway, aside from being another "big twin" there are things I do like visually about the 787 - the nose for one is reminiscent of the comet and caravelle! But the wings and engines are great too!

I thought the first time at VCV would be hard to beat but I was wrong. It just got better and better. The 3rd time I slept in my car in a parking lot there and when the sun started to rise I got in position and put the radio on. I didn't have to wait long and I think the fact I was in such a remote place made it better. No car traffic or other people around, the sound of the reverse thrusters was all to be heard. Then it parked for a few mins and turned and just spooled up and departed and did so many other nice things. Did testing the rest of the morning.

Pretty Biblical.

I drove up from Philly just to catch this thing. When it appeared from behind the building I was next to, I was stunned at how good it looked in person. I was also surprised by how quiet it was. I felt like the damn paperazzi though, laying low in my car till the last second before jumping out, getting the shots, then flooring it out of there. Hi guys,

I made the mad dash up from DC to catch it this morning:

Only Cary and I were out there this morning, which surprised me.
Many thanks to Senga for real time updates and navigation assistance and also Matthew for updates :)

Just met Nick out at the beach at JFK too!

Awesome Shot Sunil! That Nikkor 80-400 VR still a workhorse! Crispomat!

Nice shooting with you! I was going to head to EWR but with no confirmed time till last minute I bagged it for the TNT 777 departure which worked out nice. I can't believe the Dreamliner did a special request and banked the opposite way the usual 22 EWR departures do. If it banked the normal way it would have been a heck of a shot!

Hmmm, wasn't aware of any spot to see the runway from the turnpike side of the field  is this a spot that can be shared? It could come in handy in the future! Very Nice shot indeed...

Rule number 1... When you work in a building near the airport... always tip the building maintenance guy at Christmas. He knows how to get up on the roof.

Unfortunately, he has the key.

Sunil, that is one heck of a departure shot. Well done sir! That is the 80-400VR Nikkor? Impressive, given how much people rag on it

Thank you! Yes, this is with the old beat up 80-400 VR. It is a great lens if you set it correctly: turn off the VR and shoot it at f7.1. It's not a perfect lens by any means, but given the range, it is the perfect travel lens.

Rumor has it that Nikon filed a patent for an internal focus 80-400 design... time will tell if we ever see it.

Sunil

PS, I wanted to post the shot quickly so I edited it on my crappy laptop and missed the huge dust spot and color cast (my D200 likes to cast every shot green for some reason). It's re uploaded looking a little better I hope.

I did find much better results turning off the VR and using a monopod. I just found it a little too heavy. Especially on a windy day in LAS. On the top of the garage trying to get crisp departures. Even in perfect light. Great day Sunil hope you get back or I get down soon. I may do a BWI trip soon!
