Fingers crossed for the F-22 Demo also, but if not, I'd love to see the B1-B do some flybys !!!

I loved the B1 a few years back, but would like the F-22 a bit more. Actually, ill take any jet metal. I believe we were supposed to have a B-2 or F-117 a few years back, but it got canned shortly before.

Since the F-22 was grounded last year & was cancelled for the Jones Beach show.... what are the chances we can get a Raptor to appear at this years' show?

I can confirm that the F-22 has been added to the show and will be based out of KISP. Shhh, it is a secret but Yes, it is for real....as long as they do not ground them again. There have been many more incidents and the Charcoal filters and not fixing all the issues with the Air contamination issue that mimic's hypoxia.

The F-22 Demo has been officially confirmed by ACC!

Also the recent ICAS schedule confirmed it will be VFA 106 who will do the F-18 Demo. They fly the F/A-18C and F/A-18F.'

I DO like the warbirds :) The Helldiver isn't the prettiest, but it's a nice opportunity to such a rare bird! Hey, we should all try & meet up as a group at the AAM one of the days, we'll mob everything :)

Well, some of the prettiest Legacy Flight photos in 2011 to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Naval Aviation, included an F/A-18C Hornet in the colors of a WWII Helldiver unit as it joined the world's only airworthy Helldiver in the skies above Central California. Hopefully they'll schedule a special Legacy flight over Jones Beach with the Helldiver and Super Hornet along with Dan Dameo in the Corsair also.
Here are the photo links of that CoNA Hornet and Helldiver:
(BTW, the Hornet should look familiar, Isaac!!)

Always loved that Pacific blue paint scheme. The Corsair will always be my favorite warbird though.

I remember my very first WWII airshow display at Republic back in the early 90's. No Corsair, but they did have a Heinkel HE 111. That was awesome! Need to dig those up.

As I mentioned last fall..

I spoke with Ed Hamill at Macdill in October & he is VERY happy to be coming back to Jones Beach. He tore up the skies in Tampa like he's not missed a show. Got hard ass kick music this year & his flying reflects the tone set.

His new sponser has the plane looking sharp as hell. Can't wait to see him do his thing!

I hope they dont make the F-22 stand down. We got screwed last year, I was hoping they fixed that oxygen issue. I am actually SHOCKED they couldnt figure it out by now. I believe its the same system they use in the F/A-18.

I do not understand Joe.....the airshow is 2 months away.... There is no un-confirmed but likely appearances....
The only good info is what is confirmed and the rest we will find would be static and will have more info with arrivals.... Any hint of anything new goes on this forum and you would see it in this thread.....

I know lots of teams that wanted to come but could not....
if you look earlier in this thread, I confirmed the F-22 was coming before it was official.... I think that is the last you will hear about unconfirmed arrival

It performed flawlessly at the St. George Airshow in Utah this past weekend,

Talk to your Congressperson :-) But, I +1 (+100) re: B1 ... the last time it was seen by me at Jones it was very foggy and cloudy and it was one heck of a display. Best display ever was in Van Nuys Airshow about 10 years ago ... OMG, they did not care about noise abatement or flying too low!! nuff said...

Don't they work for the Navy? They go for rides on those big grey boats... The USMC started out as a division of the Navy, just as the USAF started out as a division of the Army. However, the Marines still have close ties to the Navy, since they can't actually get anywhere without hitching a ride on those big boats ;) The USAF has done the opposite, they provide rides for the Army... LOL.

Actually, the Marines, while having a separate command structure, are under the authority of the Department of the Navy and the Secretary of the Navy. The Air Force is a completely independent branch, under the Secretary of the Air Force.

Airshow news has kind of been dry lately but I did come across this article regarding fleet week. http://www.silive.com/news/index.ssf/2012/04/staten_islands_fleet_week_to_r.html

The Navy's ace "Blue Angels" team also will fly over the flotilla during the opening event at 11:30 a.m., before headlining an air show at Jones Beach on Long Island.

I assume the flyby will be on the 23rd since it is the opening day of fleet week?

Latest updates for the "Legends of Airpower and Armor Weekend" this memorial day weekend May 25th-28th. We have an impressive line up planned for the museum event. AAM's B-25, C-47, Corsair, P-40, P-47, P-51, AT-6Dx2, SB2C "Helldiver", B-17 "Yankee Lady", Tora Tora Zero, L-39, and Waco UPF 7.

Just got their email today(hate that you cant click through to their website-strange). Anyway, you can buy museum tickets through the website for the Legends of Airpower and Armour Event(May25th-may 28th) at a discount. Tickets can be purchased for the General Admission, Weekend Photographers Pass and VIP packages.

Took my niece last year and she loved it and asked about going again this year. Guess I'll try the Photographers Pass for myself. Anyone knows what added benefits the Photographers Pass has? No detail on the website.

Cool to see the Helldiver and Zero additions to the show this year. Nice.

As far as I can tell, it's simply an all-weekend pass, rather than a one-day ticket. Don't buy it thinking it's going to get you into places the public isn't normally allowed. If I hear anything else, I'll pass it along.

The Helldiver yes! The 'TORA' Zero is just a T-6 made up to look like one for the movie. Now if they brought back the real Zero that made that private appearence last year? Or the CAF out in CA has a genuine Zero in their fleet, now that would be cool.

To make a TORA Zero interesting it needs about a half dozen of it's stable mates and put on the full show! Now that would be a cool idea. A full TORA demo and a barge of Pyro anchored out in the ocean.

Just saw this posted on MSNBC.com:

Panetta restricts F-22 flights due to oxygen system complaints

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has ordered the Air Force to restrict flights of its new F-22 stealth fighters because of continuing problems with the aircraft's oxygen system. At least 22 pilots have suffered from oxygen deprivation while in flight since April 2008.

Panetta on Tuesday ordered that all F-22 flights remain within a "proximate distance" of an airfield in case a pilot should suffer from a hypoxia event and be forced to land. That will force an immediate end to F-22 patrol missions over Alaska.

Panetta also ordered the Air Force to accelerate installment of a backup oxygen system in all F-22s and provide monthly progress reports on efforts to identify the problem with the current oxygen system. The Air Force does not expect to begin installing automatic backup oxygen systems until December of this year.

Has the museum posted a list of all the events scheduled for each day of the airshow ? I'm not sure which day would be the best to go and I don't want to buy an expensive weekend pass...

Which day is the C-47 flying ?

Friday - Monday will have a ton of action. Between the practice show, airshow, and flight experiences you'll see a lot of warbirds flying.

Considering they use the C-47 for both flight experiences and the airshow performance, I'm sure you'll see a lot of it everyday.

I would think we have 2 things going for us ... 1) FRG isnt far from Jones beach. even though the F-22 will be based out of ISP, I would assume FRG could serve as an emergency airfield. Also ISP still isnt that far away. 2) The demos for the airshow are at a lower altitude. I would assume that the concern for lack of oxygen would be lessened.

Right or wrong, these are the reasons I am using to convince myself that we will still get an F-22.

Also, according to their PAO, right now Snowbirds #1 - #9 are due into FRG either later on the 24th or early on the 25th. It all depends upon how well their long transit day goes from Winnipeg to LI on Thurs. However, he also said Snowbirds #10 and #11 will be arriving earlier in the week and those 2 planes will be participating in the Hudson River flyover with the Blue Angels on the 23rd if all goes well.

Right now I believe the Blue Angels will be arriving either on Monday or Tuesday, but just so you know there's a good chance they'll still be using their replacement C-130 "ERNIE" while Fat Albert undergoes maintenance.

As far as I can tell, it's simply an all-weekend pass, rather than a one-day ticket. Don't buy it thinking it's going to get you into places the public isn't normally allowed. If I hear anything else, I'll pass it along.

Thanks Moose. Good to know.

Straight from AAMs facebook

I also put a ton of information on my website http://nyasinfo.com

A rumor is buzzing.....looks like there is potential for some more guests on our ramp on static display. Appears the Navy may be bringing in an EA-6B, and possibly an E/F-18 Growler. Thanks to our friends at Northrop Grumman for this one!

Now that the arrestor bed has been installed, do they still need to put in the arrestor cable? If not, does that mean all landings will be on runway 14?

If thst's the case, atleast the sun will be favorable.

I confirmed tonight at the AAM Volunteer meeting that the weekend pass is simply that - four days admission for the price of three. They were thinking about guys like us, and were hoping to be able to offer some type of special access for photographers, but were unable to make all the arrangements necessary for security and logistics. They have changed the name of the pass on the ticket sales site.

Even without special access, it's a good deal if you are going to be at the museum all weekend. Also, if you are only going one day, you should buy your tickets in advance. Advance purchase tickets are $15 for adults (the same as the museum's special event admission for the past number of years). That will get you in faster - they will have a ticket holders line, and will save you compared to the $20 admission price if you buy at the door. Advance purchase tickets can be used on any single day of the show weekend - you don't need to choose a specific day at the time of purchase.

As Kenny mentions on his air show web site (http://nyasinfo.com/) Dan McLaren and Mach 1 Productions will be at the museum throughout the weekend. I would guess early evening, no sooner than 6 or so since it will be at Andrews. They probably have a routine that they follow after shows and then travel time should only be about 30 minutes or so. This is speculative at best, as I have no inside info and will be driving up from DC myself at this time. If only I could get them to load my truck into their plane and then travel up with #7.... one can always dream..right?

It's a busy couple of weeks at FRG, and the schedule is fluid, so I can understand not wanting to take up valuable prep time to send out detailed information that will in all likelihood change before next week.

Actually, last time it was at ISP I was able to get some shots of it very easily .. now the results sucked because it was at dawn and misty, but I was able to just stop, stand on my truck and shoot over the fence, all while still on public streets. As of now it seems pretty unlikely we'll get an A-10, but it's airshow week and I really would put anything past it, even a TU-144 (this one was for you Steve).

Also Jon Huertas who stars in Castle and was in numerous other TV shows will be taking a media flight with the Blue Angels. You can read more about it here: http://www.wetpaint.com/castle/articles/castle-star-jon-huertas-dishes-on-flying-with-the-blue-angels-on-memorial-day-weekend-exclusive

The F-22 will be at Islip, not very photo-friendly. The Blues will be flying every day, except today. Wednesday they will be performing the Fleet Week flyby over the Hudson River, departing FRG around 10:30ish. Thursday and Friday afternoons they will fly a show practice at the beach, and Saturday and Sunday they will fly their air show performances. Look for them to depart FRG around 2pm those days, returning an hour or so later. You can see them parked at the terminal, and watch them depart/recover on Rwy 14/32 from New Highway, or the parking lots around the movie theater/Home Depot.

if you want to see them fly over head you wanna go to the parking lot by home depot or go to the end of the runway by the big loop on new highway by the southern. those spots are great but limited in sight. If you go by the terminal on 110 you'll see them taxi away and get a side view of the take-off. it's really a matter of what you want to see! they say 11am but i'll be there around 9am. they have a good show just getting into their jets but probably won't do it tomorrow, look for it sat/sun.

you can't get to the terminal from home depot. look for the sign for the 56th fighter group and turn there, it's right after wall mart. you'll see the terminal when you get there and there is plenty of parking. from there you'll be within 50 feet or so of the Blue Angels. I find that to be one of the better spots, just my opinion though.

You are not parking at Parking at Home Depot and walking to the terminal, it is a hike. Take a look at the spotting guide here,

In regards to the fence at the end of the approach to 19 and the Dave & Busters parking lot I shot the Snowbird and the E/A-6 thrugh the fence at 500mm, in the mist. The ledge to stnd on is about 14 inches wide so with the long lense I had to hold on with one hand and balance the camera against the fence to get the shot one handed. If you are using a long lense there is really know way to stand and shoot two handed, the ledge is too narrow. But you can see what the views are.

The other two shots are of the fence and retaining wall. Like I mentioned before they haven't installed the green grass between the links yet.

Probably give or take. If the Angels are scheduled for a 1:45 depart from FRG then it will go past 2PM. And be advised they will be charging the $10 parking fee. They started that last year as they
realized more people were coming to the show. Its well worth it as you pretty much see everyone except for maybe the Warbirds and the ANG SAR demo and its not crazy crowded.

Just an FYI that last pic of the fence doesnt quite show that the wall is about 5 feet high and not so easy to climb up on. And if you go down to the left towards the end of the parking lot its much
lower to step up on BUT then you have to make your way back and if people are already standing there it will be difficult if not a pain in the rear to move around them to get a good spot. But that
being said its still a great place to hang out to see the departs and arrivals with the green bunting gone and just standing in the lot you get great views of the flight line and any and all flybys.
Good hunting all!!

The Blue Angels are to flyover the Hudson at the end of the Parade of Ships which would be around 11:00-11:30am on Wednesday miorning. They will approach the Narrows from the south and follow the Hudson north over Manhattan
I haven't heard how many passes they will make

Has NYC/OEM or the Mayors Office put out any media alerts that the Blues will be flying up and maybe down the Hudson? I can guess they wont be that high and I can already hear the calls coming in to 911.

They tweeted one yesterday:

Fleet Week events 5/22-5/30 to include military aircraft flyovers and demonstrations throughout NYC.

Great shots!! mine arent half as good......maybe I will try to post them later....anyway, I noticed on the Nyasinfo website the practice for friday is listed as 9-2 (as opposed to the normal 10-3 of the weekend show) is the 9-2 time correct?

Thanks

Ken

Sorry for the late reply as I have been very busy today.

Now it does look like the practice will be the usual 10AM-3PM. Yesterday I got an email saying it was taking place from 9AM-2PM. But since the TFR is from 1400 to 1900 and the Blue Angels said they were departing at 1:45, it looks like it is 10AM-3PM.

To be honest I think someone mistakenly converted UTC to EST instead of UTC to EDT when reading the TFR.
