William Halleran, 93, of North Merrick, a Pearl Harbor Survivor, passed away Friday. Mr. Halleran had participated in the Pearl Harbor memorial ceremonies at the American Airpower Museum numerous times in the past, but suffered a stroke Monday night, and was not able to attend the ceremony this past Wednesday.

Mr. Halleran, and his brother, were both stationed aboard the USS Phoenix, a light cruiser, at the time of the attack. His brother also survived, and passed away three years ago. Mr. Halleran helped organize the Long Island Chapter of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Organization. I've had the honor to speak with Mr. Halleran in the past at ceremonies at the museum.

Mr. Halleran at the 2010 ceremony:

This year, an empty seat marked his place.
